I guess they're TRYING to help the common man, but because there's actually very few terrorists that could be and so many methods used that we don't or didn't know about, it kinda raises a big red flag.

they used collected information from foreign diplomats to get an advantage in meetings.

they also did a smear campaign with data collected from Islamist leaders in the United States to blackmail and smear them.

Government by nature can not be trusted, therefore it must be kept in line by the people.  I fear that the NSA May use their power to target groups that do not follow the current administrations agenda, like the IRS did.
