on windows 8 how do you stop the start button sending you to the stuffty windows 8 menu? I want the start menu from windows 7

he means all the time, so instead of the metro start screen coming up when you click start, a windows 7 style start menu comes up

My bad, misunderstood. I use Start8 but if you don't have $5 then Classic Shell Start Menu is a good alternative.

What I mean is trying to clean up my desktop to a blank background with Rainmeter for my CPU, Ram, And HDD Space.

I tried this once, set up a really nice rainmeter theme and had everything cleared. Lasted about a week or so then reverted to minimal rainmeter and max of 4 columns of icons; it hurt my productivity too much

All of the apps I use are in my start button, which leads to a clean desktop.
I'm running Windows 7 with a custom Windows 8 Start Orb. I like the look of it.

a really good tip boost gave me for my folders:

instead of having game shortcuts and work folders on the desktop, have them in your documents, and add them to Favorites

then just place windows explorer in your taskbar or start menu and you have easy access

Actually, the Windows 8 start orb is pretty good looking, I like the style!
