Author Topic: Dwarf Fortress - In other news, 0.40.13 is now released.  (Read 30329 times)

Currently I'm trying to clean out a necromancer tower. The necromancer died first, but three trips and five or so companions later not even the first room is clear yet.

I'm really annoyed. So, in the game where I became a necromancer, I had a crash. This means my progress got pushed to quite a bit before the necromancer tower. Unfortunately, in the new update, zombies are actually hostile. Furthermore, these zombies are more powerful than ever before. Usually, when you hit one hard or decapitate it, it will collapse. I decapitated one, only to have it participate in my death. Also, even if you become friendly with the necromancers, the zombies will get you. There is no way to tell the zombies to stop fighting you.

This all might be because I accidentally attacked a zombie while moving, but I'm pretty sure that only happens as a retaliation. I'm going to try again.

so right now I'm trying to get into dwarf fortress
first few playthroughs of adventure mode:
Playthrough 1 - spawned in some desolate place, wandered around a bit, found a river, thought it was a good idea to jump into it.
Smashed into an obstacle, had a forgetton of injuries I can't even recall, drowned.

Playthrough 2 - some actual progress. Went around some place, talking to people. Learned about some vampire killing everybody in this one random town, so I fast travelled there. In town, I noticed some kinda pool structure. So naturally I thought it was a GREAT idea to alt+walk into the free space with water below.
Guess what - I drowned. Surprising, right?

Yeah. So far I'm really enjoying this game, although all I'm doing right now is just finding hilarious ways to die.

Put two ranks into swimmer in character gen. This will theoretically allow you to swim indefinitely.

But how would I get out of that pool if the water was a level below me?

Climb. H key. You might have to put stuff in a backpack.

Problem: I was adventuring in an old version, but now I downloaded the latest and when I try to play Adventure Mode it always freezes up during loading. Any ideas?

It's stuck at "Updating World" phase.

Gen a smaller world. It has to do with the calendar being really slow on anything larger than a small-size world.

Is a powerful Necromancer Swordswoman
Has loads of zombies under their control
Is on a quest to kill some sort of titan
Slaughters puny elves along the way
Encounters a random bandit camp
Slaughters a Spearman in one hit
The flying copper bolt pierces through the copper helmet
Dead

Gotta love it

The arrow/bolt - The medieval age's equivalent of a bullet.

So uh
I suck at real time strategies
How badly will I suck at this game

You can always go adventure mode and play The Dwarven Scrolls
huehue

We need a Dwarf Fortress with actual graphics.

There are always 3rd party texture packs, but they're just that, 3rd party. I could link a few if anyones interested and/or I can find them.
