Author Topic: BeamNG.drive Megathread - Car Pancakes, anyone?  (Read 3128 times)

a driving game based around soft body physics.

What is BeamNG.drive?
BeamNG.drive is a driving game based arond it's soft-body physics. By soft-body physics, I mean when you hit a wall at 100mph, your car will dent into a pancake, almost like stepping on a soda can. I believe it was made in a newer version of Torque, but some say it was made in CryEngine.
The original concept was made in CryEngine, the current game is on Torque3D

What can I do?
Currently only drive around and crash, really. Racing and derby gamemodes are planned and are in development.

I don't understand the first statement you made about soft-body physics...
I'll let this explain.

Is this game mod-able? Can I get custom cars/maps/so on?
Yes! You can down load maps, vehicles, and other things in which I can't remember.

Wow! is there any place I can get this?

Side note: This is the first megathread I've ever done, so let me know if I need anything. Thanks!

I'm not sure as of yet. I do know of a game that does this, though, it's called Rigs of Rods. However, depending upon what setup you have, you may have to find the control files on the mod, and the game is outdated as hell. Good luck, I guess.

i dont wanna drive a rig though. I just wanna drive fast cars. I know they have car mods for this game. I'll download a couple cars i like and just drive as fast as i can.

I do it in GT6, I pick a huge track and just drive, but i wanna pick up something more open world.

oh god someone must recreate the Reliant Robin episode of Top Gear

someone should port the jeep to this

hell port all of fillipes cars aswell

GTA VI needs complete soft body cars.

Its basically what tech demos like this is leading to.

I really want the full version
The demo is really fun

Full version looks so pretty *-*

I dunno man
Some of the guys on their forums are big on terms of realism. But It's worth a shot. Vehicles are made in Lua, so I can always look into the code of other cars and make my own.

I tried the demo, and didn't really like it that much. The driving control was terrible. The physics were relatively impressive, but they seemed a little too soft sometimes, and because of this pretty much every crash looked to produce the same result regardless of speed. I'm sure that a wider variety of cars could make this a little better but I'm not interested in buying the full version

beamng's technology is being upsold to other studios as a better way to do car physics, it being a standalone game too is really just a playground. afaik it's the same situation with nextcargame, although that one is being expanded upon much more in its own game. both are good, NCG is just a better racer so far.

can 630m with latest drivers run this?

What did ya use for controls?

if you were using mouse/keyboard then yeah you should expect that.  having a static on/off throttle control is usually going to end up in pretty stuff handling.

using an xbox controller or anything else is actually a huge improvement
