I don't get it.

When sodium comes into contact with water, it bursts into flames.

That explains why saltwater tastes dryer than regular water!

sodium doesn't react with everything chemically and it doesn't burst into flames in water it just explodes wtf

brockrand comics my ass this is secretly a chemistry classroom

I still find it weird how sodium, a highly reactive element, and chlorine, a highly toxic element, can combine into something so mundane as salt.

ozone aka o3 is a corrosive and a poison while o2 is the air we all need. if you have ozone at ground level its an illegal/dangerous substance lol

chemistry is secretly an elaborate set of instructions on how to predict the elements as we know it. it just gives us a way to explain why certain things happen (eg why sodium blows up and o3 is so much more unstable than o2) but its just a description

you could probably come up with an entirely different way to describe chemicals/elements (past the basic sense) and maybe even come up with a simpler way to explain and group chemical phenomena.

high school chemistry megathread?
