i searched "meme 16th century" on wikipedia. so far closest match is this starfish

edit: ok forget that guy, he lived through the early years of 16 instead of the later years, and thus doesn't fit
i'm actually sure it's this starfish instead, with his forgetass "Meme Yisrael" that he managed to publish into "Zemirot Yisrael" in 1599.
that big Z itself was apparently published in 1587, which is a bit closer to that spike - and i think the one WolframAlpha actually counted from.

attempting to type either into wolfalpha only results in it shoving the loving state of israel into my face, so i'm leaving it at "this is where mine and maxwell's ancestry comes from".
