the justice system is pretty bad in general
like, at best, you're just making people think, "hmm, I'm not gonna do this, because I'll go to jail"
how is that considered ok? like, you wanna hurt someone or whatever, and the only thing stopping you is the threat of punishment? jesus
not to mention, "rehabilitation" is hardly a word that can apply to any part of the prison system
