NO...NO...NO. Allowing the old-style, willy-nilly, throw-ice cream-anywhere style of Add-Ons would TOTALLY defeat the purpose of .zips. Requiring .zips might even prevent some older, ice creamty Add-Ons from making it to V9. In fact, I recommend that people NOT port ice creamty Add-Ons to V9.
I'll be sure to port everything in the add-ons forums that is not already ported, should this occur.
And how will it stop the ice creamy add-ons? All that needs to be done is put them in a .zip, and odds are they'll be a tutorial on this on the forums soon, should this come to pass.
In addition, the use of RTB2 to manage, download, update, and rate Add-Ons will a HUGE benefit to the community.
How's that relevant to the argument of .cs vs .zip; does RTB2 require that all add-ons be forced into .zips? The community has said that it already works, they just need to make changes when v9 comes out in order to retain compatability.
Besides, it won't be THAT much work to convert, and it'll save you the trouble of other servers downloading ice cream into Add-Ons/Add-Ons and base/base, etc.
True. It'll just mean you have to re-zip everything every 30 seconds when making mods. Not too much of a problem, it'll just be quite annoying after the first 200 times, that's the only thing. No more alt+s, now you'll have to actually open the folder and drag+drop... every... single... time. Gotta love pointless steps.
No argument aganist fixing the download time, though. Instead, all we have to worry about is people putting the .zip into add-ons/someotherfolder by mistake. Less common, but can still happen.
Oh, and a question. Since Torque views .zip files as folders, could putting a .cs file in a folder trick the system?
