I think one of my main problems is that firealpaca which is the drawing thing I use, has absolute stuff for tools.

yeah i dunno man, you can do whatever you want i guess but having a female version of an existing character as an entirely new (and important) character seems really lame to me lol

she was but I started to like her a lot more and she became her own thing.

well pretty much the small amount of backstory flatflyer has is

he was born on a different planet, he was raised by his parents there until he was 14, he was considered gifted with the ability to perform magic and he was taught how to use it.
by the time he was around 12 his home was attacked. the people decided to save the children of the village by sending them off far away in the few ships they have which will autopilot to a random destination far away from their planet.
flatflyer was one of the ones picked to go on due to being young and having magical powers, so he was sent off into space and ended up landing on earth.

its kinda dumb I know but eh I'm horrible at coming up with original stuff that actually sounds good :|
