Author Topic: Social Justice Megathread  (Read 17683 times)

Since this was half the tumblr thread and spread into countless other threads.
Apologies for the formatting guys. I'm still working on it.

    Terms to know:
    • Common Logical Fallacies used by all groups:
      • No True Scotsman --- No True Scotsman is a logical fallacy by which an individual attempts to avoid being associated with an unpleasant act by asserting that no true member of the group they belong to would do such a thing. Link
        • No true feminist hates men
        • No true man abuses women
      • Strawman Argument --- A straw man ... is a common type of argument and is an informal fallacy based on the misrepresentation of an opponent's argument. Link
      • False Dichotomy --- A false dilemma is a type of informal fallacy that involves a situation in which limited alternatives are considered, when in fact there is at least one additional option. The opposite of this fallacy is argument to moderation. Link
        • You're either with us or you're with the terrorists!
        • Are you a feminist or a misogynist?
      • Ad Hominem --- Bringing one's opponents character into question rather than focusing on his or her arguments. Link
        • Feminism is for women too fat to get laid, don't listen to feminists!
        • I don't care what you write, you reblog nationalist posts.
      • The Texas Sharpshooter --- Assuming a casual relationship when there is none. Link
    • Sociological terms:
      • love --- The biologically determined counterpart to gender. Terms used to describe love are "Male" and "Female". What actually determines love (brain patterns, chromosomes, or genitalia) and how to deal with people who's biological features don't match up is up to debate amongst people propagating the difference between love and gender.
      • Gender --- The socially determined counterpart to love. Terms used are "Masculine" and "Feminine" among others. Most who acknowledge a difference between gender and love tend to view it on a spectrum between Masculine and Feminine yet others have gone so far as to propose entire new dimensions of gender which fall outside this.
      • Cis-Gender --- When someone's love and gender agree with one another. The opposite of transgender. Most people are this.
      • Trans-Gender --- When someone's love and gender are different. This person feels as though they were born with the wrong mindset for their body. In rarer cases this may be caused by an actual biological issue in the development before birth, in which a person's genes do not match up with their genitals, for example.
      • The Patriarchy --- Used in a general sense to refer to any society/government ruled by men. As a feminist term it refers to the establishment of gendered values by men and their enforcement upon both lovees by both lovees.
      • The Matriarchy --- Pretty much the distaff counterpart of the Patriarchy coined by the men's rights movement.
      • Social construct --- The idea that a particular occurrence is not prescribed by biology but the result of the current culture and may be subject to change.
      • Misogyny --- The hatred of women. Some believe the use of this term should be narrowed to only occurrences of hatred of women that are backed by social power.
      • Misandry --- The hatred of men. The same people who believe in the narrower definition of misogyny apply it to misandry as well, stating that misandry cannot exist in our society since women don't have the power required to be misandrist.
      • love-Positivity --- Used to describe a movement. (e.g. love-positive feminism) Means that the movement or adherent believes that the freedom to express one's loveuality regardless of gender or love is a worthwhile goal.
      • love-Negativity --- The opposite of above. The adherent of this believes that loveual liberation is generally harmful. This is often seen in love-negative feminism in which these feminists believe that love, prostitution, research, and other loveual practices harm women.
      • Body-Positvity --- Also used to describe a movement. The idea that tolerance of other's bodies is paramount no matter the circumstance.
      • Privilege --- Sociologically speaking this refers to the advantages a member of a particular demographic will have from birth. This is viewed by many SJWs as a type of original sin, as it is practically impossible to get rid of and many believe it is something you should feel remorseful for having or using.
      • Ableism --- Oppression or dismissal of people with disabilities. Compare with loveism.
      • Ageism --- Same as above but with age.

Please suggest people, resources, and terms that should go up here. Try to include items from both sides of the debate, please. I'll be personally adding more in the next day or so.[/list]

    i hate social justice

I'm making a topic in which resources are provided to start a long-term discussion on the topic.
This should hopefully concentrate the discussion in this thread rather than have it all over the off-topic section.
That's what megathreads are generally for.

Yes, I'm Anti-SJW, yes I laugh at a lot of this stuff, but I do take debates seriously, and wish to represent the other side as accurately as I can.

This image has a whole lot more fallacies than your OP, and provides an example for each. I'd toss it up there for good measure.

    OP is literally raping me

she just wanted to ship some hunky spartans

    >"my expierence"
    >ancient history

they probably didn't talk about heteroloveuality either you big loving baby

Also whats the point of the anorexic chick? I don't use 4 chan a lot

I get the feeling this thread is a very, very bad idea. Equality for the minority is great and all, but the term "social justice" brings to mind extremist feminists and privilege checkers.

...Unless, of course, civilized discussion actually takes place. Then this thread is a great idea.

EDIT: That was typed before I'd actually read the initiating post on the tumblr megathread. Ignore this post.
