um touchwiz isnt just the launcher. its the whole interface.
And if THAT just isn't enough, just root your phone and get a different rom, but keep in mind that would be voiding any and all warranties, so do it at your own risk.

you forgot the part where everyone on the samsung side of xda is a complete idiot

Why not get a widely used ROM that supports most phones in the first place???

yeah cyanogen mod is pretty sweet. but whats the point. the phone will probably come with a good warranty. is it worth breaking that warranty just to make your phone functional? it should come out of the box with no lag or anything. the arguing point here for android versions is that nexus 5 was under google optimization. this is as good as youre going to get to the fastest android out there thats extremely stable.

if youre just a regular consumer thats not hard on tech specs (op) do you really want to buy a phone, break the warranty and possibly risk the chance of screwing over the phone (keep in mind this whole os switching thing isnt the easiest thing ever) just to make it fast and neat? i dont think so. ive been with several smartphones and i speak from experience when i say its frustrating to not have a capable phone straight out of the box with solid specs.

If you take care of your stuff, you wouldn't need a warranty to begin with. And while I do understand that accidents happen, and some people are just clumsy, a "regular consumer" would probably not give a stuff if the phone runs faster than another or not. If you are a regular person who needs a phone, you will get a phone that you think looks good and completely disregard how much RAM the OS uses.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, I have a S5 and it's perfectly functional with TouchWiz. I've had no problems since day 1.

Hey. If you're concerned about how stock android looks, Android L should come out, which will change the look, and increase the nexus 5's battery.

a warranty is always needed and a nice bonus. any phone is prone to just pooping with you doing nothing to it. coming out of the box dead or broken or pixels dying.

anyway a regular consumer does care how fast their phone is. nobody wants something that is disgustingly slow or not capable of completely simple tasks fast. its all about speed. i dont think anyone would enjoy an android or ios that runs at 2 frames per year.
also i doubt ram has that much to do with the speed of the device. i had 1 gb of my note and 700mb was usable and always available (any os i used including cyanogen, 300mb was always used by the os, no idea why) because i kept it clean. still was frustratingly slow at doing things.

maybe i had a bad run with samsung, but 4 devices in a row (i was a samsung fanboy, constantly stuffting on every other company too), yeah i dont know.

fortunately for me i now own an iphone so i dont have to deal with them again

edit: yeah the S5 is pretty nice. S5 is the only one that i dont have a problem with. but op doesnt have that choice. its S4 and nexus 5. the nexus 5 is better.

Nexus 5 is also cheaper.

I look at the S5 as the S4's more tame older brother. The S4 had a lot of useless features, which were taken away when the S5 was released. I had an S4 before I got my S5, and I had no problems with either. TouchWiz is kinda bad looking, but getting the Google Now launcher or another custom launcher on the Play Store fixes that easily, and it doesn't void the warranty. I understand having problems with phones, as the iPhone 4S I had quit working within a few hours of getting it. After I went to return it and get another, that one also just stopped within four weeks. I never had any problems when I went to Samsung, but I know people who have. Its all about preference I guess.
