They didn't at one point.

Even now they're only spending 1% of the GDP on it.
Do you expect countries to just dismantle their military when there is no immediate threat? I'm not quite getting your overall point here

the only threats there are to america is russia currently i guess

I really can't see America being invaded unless for some reason the whole world turns against us, only then because we'll have a lot of trouble getting all the raw resources we need. But I think our navy could beat all the navies in the world, combined.

Is drendran trolling
I didn't think I was. Maybe I'm just wrong here.
If you're allied with a significant military power or a few, why do you need forces of your own? God forbid something happens you have far more powerful nations that could help.

i don't know much about the navy but my uncle served as payroll on the USS carl vinson, he saw some guy get ripped in half once

i thought it was pretty cool (not the part about the guy getting ripped in half tho)

For regional stability

AUS troops get sent all over the oceanic region to build law enforcement capacity in poorer countries, to assist with humanitarian issues (disasters etc) and as broader peacekeepers. Our powerful allies have no interest in those sorts of roles (in our region at least), but it's in the interest of our country, thus why we need a military.

"love my country its freedoms, will force laws onto people that that people don't like. Won't fight and instead run away when it needs me."

So what you're saying is every Nation needs a significant standing military even if they are being threatened by no one?

What about Japan?
Every nation maintains a military or a defense force. Generally they aren't funded as much and kept small during peace during. During periods of high tension and war is generally when reserves are activated and recruitment increases. Current threats to Japan are China and Russia. China is currently trying to dominate the pacific ocean, NATO is using the Philippines and ANZAC forces to keep on eye on the Chinese Navy.

OP, if you are looking to join the USMC. Get into shape now and prepare to be humiliated get yelled at.

I have no idea what you're trying to say

Generally the type of people who put a lot of trust in the US government, claim to love it, say we have nothing to worry about, loyal to some political part, etc. Yet they don't want to defend their country, they only have their interests in mind. I'm not saying this is everybody, but most people I have run into are like this.

I see it more as visiting a friends house, making a mess, leaving your friend to clean it up, then coming back once the mess is cleaned up.

This is something people never realize. A lot of countries use their military for humanitarian aid missions. I don't know much about Australia's military but I assume it's similar to the US in the way it operates for humanitarian aid which means it sure helps a lot.

I almost wish I could trade with you cus I'd like to 100% remove my chances of being drafted
but on the other hand I really love peanut butter

The funny this is I still had to register for the draft when I turned 18 lol. Dumbest stuff ever. I guess they're saying they won't take me if I volunteer, but they have no problem drafting my ass into a war if it came down to that

don't do it you'll die!

don't do it you'll die!
too bad
i couldn't give a stuff about dying the only thing im afraid of is getting my ass chewed out in boot

It's going to happen, I would get over that now. I would also get over being naked around other people because that definitely will happen.

getting a boner in a room full of men in their underwear is the worst thing that could happen
