Author Topic: Game company idea: Buy a game, get keys for all consoles  (Read 652 times)

So I've been buying a lot of games for PC, and it makes me so annoyed that I have to rebuy them on another console if I already own it.

Then I thought: What if you buy a game, then you can get keys to use on all consoles? It'd make sense, because if I got the game, I should be able to use it on all consoles, PS3, PC, XBOX, or whatever console it's on, right?

So, example:

* KillerCop311 buys a game on Steam.

* Company of said game incorporates idea in title.

* Company sends keys for other consoles to email (via whatever email the account was signed up with on Steam, PSN, or Xbox Live or whatever console).

* KillerCop311 can now play the games universally on all consoles with a single key.

Please note the keys would only be for the consoles it was made for. So if it's only on PS3, you only get a PS3 code. If it's only on PC, you get no code.

Would this be a good thing? Would it help gamers be able to play games more easily, and for a lesser cost?

I doubt this would happen though due to game companies being the money hogging pigs they all are.

im pretty sure game dev companies would lose a RIDICULOUS amount of money

all companies just want is money
do you honestly think they'll do this

Yeah, there is literally no incentive for them to offer anything like this. They just lose money.

why do people think 'ugh companies are such money-hoggers' all the time. they NEED the money. what the forget makes you think they dont?

It sounds good...for the consumer that is. The actual companies, however, will not see this the same. It'd be nice for us of course, but the people that would actually make this happen won't make it happen; and if they do, they will jack up the cost for a copy for multiple platforms, since it's another way for them to profit and because they pretty much are giving out multiple copies of the game too; it's just that you're using different copies on different platforms.

It would be nice for the consumer, but it would affect the profits of the producer.
Not only do they get extra money from multiple purchases, but it tends to cost the producers in the first place to get their game available on the Xbox/PlayStation/Wii, etc...

If one purchase means you get it on all of them then they're no longer making back the money it cost for their game to be on those varying consoles.

Well, what about this?

Only a select few games can have this offer each month. Other games you will still have to buy for each console.

Its easier to just make the game cross-platform.

Only a select few games can have this offer each month.
The companies who make the game would have to decide to opt in on that.
They probably won't, unless they get some kind of money bonus out of it.

ofc they do, they should put out good products, but the reason I'm saying companies are greedy is because they put out games with minimal quality ex. EA and charge like $70 for them + dlc

Again, good for the customer, but there's absolutely no incentive for a company to do that sort of offer.

A game dev/producer could do this if they really wanted to, but it would be money out of their pockets.

in that case it makes sense

Unfortunately, [big publisher here] does not give a single stuff about what helps gamers. It's all about the money. Giving a customer multiple products for the price of one is a loss.

Most/all companies do whatever they can to get their hands on money. If they did this, they would make much less money. This also would prevent them from making new games aswell.

Satisfying the consumer but hurting the companys funds. This would be a terrible idea.
