It was just tissue, no bone or anything, not quite enough to sew back.  It might grow back a bit, but wont look the same.  Went clean through the finger and the nail about 1/2cm from the tip.

Owch. My dad basically did this in a doorframe. (My mum closed a door slightly while he had his finger in the frame and didn't realise it until it was a bit too late).
Now he has a slightly deformed index finger. Doesn't affect him in doing anything at all though.

My dad lobbed off his sister's finger in the sliding door of a minivan when they were both kids. It was able to be sewn back on though.
