also if you brighten the shadow freddy image he's looking the exact same way as when it's dark
I know. It's just easier to see it when it's brightened. In it's normal form, it looks like he's just staring at the floor.
where are people getting this 'the puppet is the mastermind' and all that
The phone guy said he doesn't like the Puppet because it's "always thinking" and "it can go anywhere". Apparently it's just staying it it's box because it wants to.
if the first game is after the second, the puppet would have been scrapped along with everything but the original cast
I don't think the puppet is an animatronic. It's on strings and it doesn't (at least obviously) have an endoskeleton. Whatever it is, it's probably from the first building.
Oh, and you can see the puppet in the FNAF 1 building in one of the between-night cutscenes. That means the puppet is always present when the animatronics try to kill people.
it could be that, but there's nothing significant about the area the puppet stops at except the giant present, seems more like if you were following it, it'd lead to somewhere that seems interesting the slightest, whereas it makes more sense (to me at least) that freddy is chasing the puppet back into his box.
The giant present is the box that the Puppet comes out of in the actual game.
