Author Topic: The Origin Hate Thread  (Read 3919 times)

might as well rename it the bandwagon thread
ya pretty much.  i in all honesty dont like it just because it's like a clunkier steam with a lot less games

Pros
  • More responsive than Steam.
  • Built in function to stream a game to Twitch
  • Origin Overlay's web browser more responsive than Steam's
  • They have a live chat customer support. That works. And is more responsive than Valve's.
  • You can get a 24 hour refund after purchasing a game. Even after installing and playing it.
  • They give out free games.
  • Origin's Game Time service. Similar to Valve's free weekends.
  • Mexican Origin to buy games cheaper. Titanfall with Season Pass was $35.

Cons
  • It's another game client. Not as bad as Uplay or GoG's galaxy
  • Made by EA, brought to you by Sim City.
  • Their services can go do easily. See: Titanfall's launch

i made a better, non biased, non autistic op. please say more cons/pros to add, i can't think of anything else atm.

I have 5 games on origin and i got all of them for free

steam was just as terrible back in 2005

i only have origin because i get free games

non autistic op
I still find it hilarious how autism is used as an insult when most of the forum is legitimately autistic.

Here we go, McJobless is about to get into stuff again.

Problems with origin
  • Unlike Steam, which taxes you if you live in the same state as Valve, Origin taxes you because it can
  • Awful payment system that either takes forever to finish or just flat-out refuses to let you buy something
  • Downloading new games takes forever to finish. My dad has let it run for 8 hours only to see games progress by 10%
  • Apparently it tries to install malware. Citation needed
  • You need to have Origin in order to play EA's good games
  • No estimate for how long it will take to download something
  • Their games are loving expensive
  • Exploitable as forget
  • Baits you into using the software by giving out free games
  • It exists

  • Didn't know about but this, but I get taxed by Valve anyway for international payments.
  • Never had this problem.
  • Steam downloads at about half the speed Origin does. EA seems to have more download servers, less load and/or doesn't cap download rates.
  • At one point installed some form of trojan or something, but after it was exposed they cleaned it up. That was during the teething days.
  • I don't see a problem with that. Why do you need all the games consolidated? Sure, it's convenient, but at the end of the day isn't it more important to just be able to play the games?
  • Valid point.
  • Because they're obviously, unlike Valve, selling them at RRP with discounts on older titles. Valve can afford to make discounts happen, but EA cannot.
  • It's getting far better as more users enter.
  • So does Steam, but at least EA gives you games for free permanently AND let's you play with games for a week instead of 2 days.
  • I find it very convenient Origin takes my Steam keys for EA games, because that way it acts as a backup in case Valve/Steam fails for whatever reason.

I honestly find Origin just as good as Steam in its own right, and I'm happy to use them co-operatively. The real problem is UPlay.

i hope you guys do realize steam gives away games free but you don't know about them

problems with Origin:
APPARENTLY THIS GAME IS REALLY GOOD???

i hope you guys do realize steam gives away games free but you don't know about them
There are a stack of free games, however:

  • The only free Valve games are Team Fortress 2 and Alien Swarm. Everything else is third party.
  • The free weekends mean you only get the games for 2/3 days free, whereas EA gives you the game for a week.
  • I've only seen one time Valve give people a game free permanently (Portal 1) for a limited time, and while I'm sure it's happened many other times, EA seems to be doing it more frequently.

Neither is bad, or better than the other since Valve has the bigger library to choose from, but you can't discount the fact that EA does have *some* positives to their service.

the only problem with origin is that it isn't loving steam

i dont hate origin i just hate EA

i dont hate origin i just hate EA
but if we give them enough money they can actually make changes to their new games!

I hate origin because it's made by ea, and ea is literally Riddler. I'm not biased nor am I jumping on a bandwagon at all.
