Author Topic: The Origin Hate Thread  (Read 3955 times)

in steam, call of duty modern warfare 3 is $39.99. I bought it at gamestop for $6.75. So really Steam is expensive, far cry 3 on steam is $29.99. On origin it is $29.99 as well and at gamestop it is $15 or less. So really I don't know why you people buy games on either of these clients when you can go to your local retailer and get it cheaper. Especially if its a pc game because pc games are cheap as stuff at gamestop

Well, gamestop sells used games. Not very easy to get used games on PC unless its a physical disk.

OT: I honestly like origin. The only reason why IO don't use it very often is because I dont play a lot of the games on it, the exception being Sims and Battlefield 3 (which I can play due to FPS lag)
Ive never had issues with them and I personally find it more responsive than steam.

On the other hand, Origin is EA only. Steam however allows many companies and even indie developers to put their games on steam.
Also, I was never forced to instal Origin to play an EA game on steam, unlike Microsoft or Uplay (I'm looking at you Bioshock 2 and Far Cry 3)

Got no problems with origin because I'm not a little bitch.
''it's made by ea'' is a stuffty excuse for not using a useful program that doesn't harm you, go away

Bandwagon more OP, you didn't do research at all.
At most you googled some dumb barrel scraping reasons to hate Origin.

why does it take almost all of my memory to download pvz:gw?
I can barley get 1%. I have 1 tb memory WTF.

you still havent changed op to what i posted

Never said EA was a problem and I didn't Google anything. Everything in the OP is either something I experienced or something mentioned by other people in this thread.

Keep in mind, this is a hate thread. The point is to complain about your experiences with Origin, not to talk about it as a whole.

Keep in mind, this is a bandwagon thread. The point is to complain about your experiences with Origin, not to talk about it as a whole.

This thread is horrible.

    Problems with origin
    • Unlike Steam, which taxes you if you live in the same state as Valve, Origin taxes you because it can
To my knowledge, tax applies when there is a physical location in the taxable region. Regardless of the truth in that, I doubt it applies for Origin, so this seems valid.

    • Awful payment system that either takes forever to finish or just flat-out refuses to let you buy something
Never experienced this; Origin buys have always been pretty speedy if I had all the information and the money.

    • Downloading new games takes forever to finish. My dad has let it run for 8 hours only to see games progress by 10%
Though this can be a result of poor servers, it's almost definitely a bandwidth limit setting/policy or just slow internet on your end. Please also consider that many modern games are fairly heftily-sized.

    • Apparently it tries to install malware. Citation needed
    Ludicrous.

    • You need to have Origin in order to play EA's good games
Easy response: You need Steam in order to play Valve's good games.
Real response: Steam is great and it would be great if everyone used it, but companies have the right to make and use their own distribution platforms. If they use Steam, they lose out on some profit. It makes total sense for any able developer/publisher with a reasonable game list and flow to make their own distribution platform so they can get the full percentage of their PC sales. I don't hold it against EA, Valve, or Ubisoft for doing this.

    • No estimate for how long it will take to download something
There is. When something is downloading, click the little progress thingy. You get an actual download monitor dialog.

    • Their games are loving expensive
    Not Origin.

    • Exploitable as forget
Any instance of this I can think of has been quickly patched or has been acknowledged and a patch is arriving in the future.

    • Baits you into using the software by giving out free games
Giving software away for free is now a malicious evil money-grab. This is no different from a store giving free samples. It's intended to get you interested in the product(s) and this is the entire basis of advertising.

    • Refund system involving preorders is pure bullstuff. You should be able to refund a preordered game at any time before it laucnches
I don't know enough about this to have an opinion, but there may well be legal reasoning.

    • It exists
    ok

I don't know if this thread is legitimate hate or if it's bandwagon, but Origin deserves at least a fair chance.[/list]

    it's pretty bandwagon

majority of ea games come with SECUrom and even you can remove that so i dont know where your pulling that "malicious" stuff out of
