Author Topic: Guys I just had an idea for a gamemode  (Read 1562 times)

I'll try to explain this the best I can, maybe add some badly-drawn (and scannerless) visual aids sometime.

The gamemode is meant to be hosted on a multiplayer server, although could probably be played alone if you wanted to.

When the game begins, players are split into groups of 2 (if there is an odd number of players, a random player competes against a bot), and set in front of 2 different tracks on which they must race.

The catch is that there's no vehicles. So, how do you make this interesting?

Obstacles.

The gamemode I thought of would essentially be an obstacle course; same (duplicated) track for each group, 2 different players. The goal is what you'd expect; get to the finish while avoiding an assortment of obstacles that block your way to the finish line.

The obstacles could range from wooden bridges with weak rungs (should be subtly hinted at) to swimming through an underground maze. The possibilities are endless.

So who would want to see this happen and where can I get a good coder?

so race for the wool in blockland

You don't really need any coding skills at all to make a gamemode. You can just build it yourself and then follow the how-to-package-a-gamemode guide so it's a gamemode. It should be pinned to the front page of this section and will tell you exactly what to put in code wise. All you have to do is copy and paste the code.

Do you mean a Deathrun ?

Do you mean a Deathrun ?
a deathrun has a solo player working against everyone else by setting off traps
so race for the wool in blockland
no

it's almost completely different, barring the 2 separate tracks (but not mirrored)

think of it as a 2-lane obstacle course with the exact same placement as the other lane

and it's 1v1 me skrub

So it's just a race? Except with two groups of people? It wouldn't be a good idea to have them be groups of people, but instead a 1v1 because with the other way it would mean people could slack off while one person could do all the work. My point being, it only depends on one person to actually touch the finish.

i said it was 1v1

I don't think that groups of two means 1v1. It shows here that you want it to be 2v2.

I've made a 12 player version if this where they all share one track with Slayer AI, I'll gladly make another map for you.

groups of 2 as in it's 1v1, just that different players are randomized

i have no other way to clarify :s

So it's team one participant, team two participant, team one spectators, and team two spectators?
That's what I'm pulling from this.

I think what he means is 2 tracks of 2 guys racing at the same time

Oh, like that Mario Parter 4 mini game where it's 2v2, and you must press buttons as prompted to get your teammate to the end.

like this:

note how the tracks come in pairs

still 1v1
