Rise of Nations

What is this game?

Rise of Nations is a Real Time Strategy in which applies military, economy, and diplomacy in its gameplay. It's like if Age of Empires, Total War, Civilization, and Command and Conquer all got blended together into one game and made this beauty and masterpiece of an underrated game.

You can play quick skirmishes, campaigns and even Conquer the World, which allows you to battle with other AI in a game of total dominance of the world.

Steam has rereleased the game, updating its graphics and gameplay with extra features and other goodies. Let's not forget to mention that this game is moddable and able to have extra content.

You can get it here

huh. how does it compare to civilization 5?

hot damn, i've played this game since i was like 8 and didn't get the expansion pack until i was 12

but since then i haven't re-installed it

huh. how does it compare to civilization 5?

Better, combat works more in the favor of those who can use strategy instead of luck, it has maybe a little less in the ways of tech treeing and stuff, but overall I find it more fun.

wtf, the combat isn't even comparable to civ, and if anything, i'd say civ 5 takes more strategy. i dunno why you bring up tech trees, as RoN doesn't even start to compare to civ 5's.

really, to answer flame's question: it doesn't, they play totally differently.  if ya like RTSes, then you'll probably love RoN.

Rise of Nations is probably my favourite RTS ever.
The gameplay itself is much closer to Age of Empires than Civilisations (It's not turn-based, for example).

I used to play this all the time. But I'm currently waiting for it to go cheap on Steam before I nab it again.

looks interesting
but i think ill stick to grand strategy

When is luck involved in Civ?

That moment when one solder can take out more than half a unit.

When is luck involved in Civ?
That moment when you start in a mountainous jungle.

i loving love rise of nations
i used to play it with a friend all the time, our wars were good fun.

also to everyone who's played rise of nations

have you ever had that moment when you're playing and since you have fog of war turned off, you look at your enemy's country and see this stuff

and then this stuff

and then you see the enemy researched all of this stuff before you could in a single second

Yes, yes and yes.

Harder AI's are almost completely impossible to play against.
