Author Topic: Hard drive wont stop being stuff part 2 : i think i fixed it finally  (Read 1612 times)

PREVIOUSLY ON "Hard drive wont stop being stuff part 2" :

previously i made a thread about my hard drive and how slow it was (and how it sounded like a loving motorboat whenever it loaded something), however i cant find it, so ill just describe it again

whenever i start up my computer my hard-drive wants to constantly run and take 20 years to load up, this is the same whenever i load up windows explorer or try saving and image, recently, it stopped for like 2 days, but its happening again, ive scanned my computer for malware and other forms of viruses, and nothing has came up, im not sure if the harddrive is dying, if i need to go on a massive uninstalling spree, or i have to wipe my comp and start fresh, which i am kinda considering at this point, but before i do, im taking suggestions that is if anyone has any

please note i previously had norton installed but i got rid of that stuff antivirus 6 months ago, i dont know if theirs remnants that i need to get rid of or if its something else

if anyone has had any problems similar to this or suggestions, please please let me know, im getting tired of my computer doing this every day

THEN... :

WELL...it turns out whats been causing this the whole time is a keylogger, great.

and now :

cccleaner got rid of everything, im going to do more scans with avast though, to see what else shows up and needs purging

How old is the hard drive and what brand/other specifications can you tell us.

Your hard drive sounds like it ded.

How old is the hard drive and what brand/other specifications can you tell us.

its around 2 years old at this point, its probably and HDD, but i dont know what brand it is, it came with the computer im using though

i dont think it should be doing this already after 2 years

so a hard drive is like a operating system thing a ma boby?

Just get a new one if you're questioning it. 2 years is pretty short, but still better safe than sorry.

if it's making noises then it's most likely not software

.-.

if it's making noises then it's most likely not software

he means when it's actually being used (the arm moving on the platter).

you NEED to defragment that drive. it helps with load times and such. i don't think the harddrive is failing yet after 2 years (unless it's seagate...)

UPDATE:

turns out theres a keylogger on my computer woop woop

avast is doing a bootscan as we speak, so yeah

im probably going to change some passwords tonight

how did you figure that out?

also as a necessary fix get combofix, tdsskiller & roguekiller

No you don't
Combofix is useless unless you're severely infected, I have no loving clue what roguekiller is and avast handles rootkits fine.

If you're so paranoid then get super anti spyware, but that's really overkill when you really can just use avast and mbam.

what did you download exactly?

avast's boottime scan found out

what did you download exactly?

dont remember, last time this thing was edited april 16th of last year, this thing has been loving dormant in my system for months now, so im pretty forgetin scared to say the least

yes, that is my real name

computers still slow though, so im going to do another bootscan with only my system drive and see if anything else shows up

my computers probably forgeted up because it sinks deep into the registry, probably going to have to wipe my harddrive and start anew soon

if you want an article on it :

if its making noises like that, its obviously a hardware issue.

You need a new hard drive.
