THE UNOFFICIAL THREAD OF

What the hell is Rigs of Rods?
Rigs of Rods is a driving simulation game featuring Soft Body Physics. It's very old, but it delivers.
Tons of vehicles, incredible damage, nice models, eych dee arr (HDR), and dee oh eff (Depth of Field) make this game pretty good.

What stuff can you drive?
You can drive varied cars and trucks and boats and planes and stuff.
Check the Rigs of Rods Repository or Forums to find them.
There are trucks, boats, wreckers, cars, planes, helicopters, even Dodge Rams if they were Martian.

Can we have some screenies?
Yeah, sure. Here.

How much is it and where can I get it?
It's free and has always been, get it at their website.

I downloaded the mods, now how do I install them?
This is for Windows 7, what I do to install them, at least.

First, go to the Start menu and click Documents.
From there click the folder called Rigs of Rods 0.XX.X (I use 0.38, you might have 0.4.X)
Open "packs"
Insert .zip
And you're done! Start up ROR, and go! It'll be in the Fresh section when spawning vehicles.

IF THE DESCRIPTION STATES TO DO SOMETHING OTHER THAN THIS, DO WHAT IT SAYS.

Can we have links to important stuff?

Car showroom
Truck showroom
Repo (most people don't put their vehicles here)
Download (if you weren't paying attention)
ROR Wikipedia

(if you're a smart cookie, you know that I didn't put any screens of damage in this thread. you need to see for yourself!)

I couldn't even drive any of the cars, the handling was stuff on all of them

It's been a long time since I have been active in the RoR community...

I made an honest attempt to regather my profile from neglect but of course then I forgot about it.

i wanted to play this but it would only load like 2 vehicles for me so i just gave up on it

isn't this by the people working on Beamng

isn't this by the people working on Beamng
BeamNG is the spiritual successor of rigs of rods

Not at all, at least I don't think so.

The only problem I had with this game is the control scheme and the engine feeling outdated as time itself.

also the game is unoptimized as stuff

Whoa, that doesn't at all look like the mess I remember.

Wrong

BeamNG, is the successor as Filipe stated already.  The following image is taken from BeamNG's about page regarding the team behind it.

For the lazy, this shows that Thomas Fischer aka tdev is one of the programmers involved in BeamNG

And to back that up some more, coming from Rigs of Rods wiki

Quote
RoR was started and originally developed by Pierre-Michel Ricordel (aka pricorde), who is now retired from the project, though you may see him lurking the forums every once in a while. Thomas Fischer (aka tdev) is now the lead developer, but there is a somewhat large Behind-the-scenes team working on RoR.

Some more details also show some reputable members of the RoR community, including but not limited to Gabester, LjFHutch

hey, I got no preconceptions of your character, but just because you know some fact doesn't mean you should be a smarmy starfish about it.

what are you trying to do? put him in his place?
