Author Topic: Girl suspended for saying "Bless You" in a classroom  (Read 5183 times)

What about religious freedom?

This took place in the USA, right?

If it did she cannot be suspended because it infringes on her right if liberty of speech (Amendment I, US Constitution). I believe she has a right to sue them because if that.
does this mean swearing is allowed too

I seriously can't take any atheists seriously who actually give a stuff about removing all religious symbols from the English language and from US currency and architecture. It's literally just the atheism-equivalent of 'Tropes vs. Women in videogames'.
Pretty much this. An atheist that gets easily offended by a phrase is just as bad as a religious person getting offended by a gay male being in their presence.

i'm an atheist and i don't really care if people practice religion or not
if you want your religion, you can have it

That's fine, but we are talking about the militant and fedora atheists who are intolerant of other beliefs and treat science as their religion.

I suspect it is as long as it is very rare, instead of having every ducking word coming out of your damn mouth is a stuffty swear word, god dammit! Meta-loving-phorically speaking, of loving course!
Yes, I swore to show an example.

That's stupid. It's a polite tradition to say "bless you" after someone sneezes.

idk about the us but up here in canada we have schools split up into regions and a board that is pretty much the head of all the schools

i'm sure if the US has this kind of system and they actually monitor what the schools do this stuff would happen less.

thats pretty much what i'm saying
we have a thing
called states
we have 50 of them
and guess what?
they run the school systems for their region

I remember hearing from some vague and untrustworthy source that they use to say gesundheit more, but when world war 1 came around they starting saying bless you more.

Stop dissecting it. Bless you is a polite thing to say, period. It is not a religious thing to say.
This
This is stupid. She's not forcing her beliefs on anyone. Though in my experience with my school, if a teacher has a problem, the administration will find any way to twist it around so they can punish you. "Oh, maybe you were disrupting the class?" No, the teacher called her out for something that she shouldn't have been called out for. Accept that this happens

For anyone who may be confused: there is NO law that can even be INTERPRETTED to prohibit practice of religion in school, only that school staff can not LEAD the practices

There are petitions to remove "Under God" from it altogether.
FUn fact: The original version of the pledge didn't have "under god" in it
It was added in like the 1950s or 60s

Today in Organic Chemistry someone sneezed and the professor immediately said bless you even though he was in the middle of explaining something. I thought of this thread.

I feel like finding a group of atheists and throwing notes that all say "god" at them, just to piss them off.

not all atheists are antitheists
they probably wouldnt give a stuff

"Throwing notes" LOL
I think you missed the part where this forum has a huge atheist proportion, yet none of them felt this girl should be in trouble

"hello sir, what do you feel right now"

*slowly turns into le camera*
