Empires Mod, which at the time appears quite dead but has plenty of potential for being repopulated.
What is it?Empires Mod (Shortened as
Empires) is, at the moment, a Half-Life 2 modification that has been in development across various game engines since 2003. It's a hybrid of a first person shooter (FPS) and a real time strategy (RTS) game, similar to Nuclear Dawn and Natural Selection. After receiving praise for its gameplay along its vast history, it recently became dormant in late 2013 after a error with SteamPipe and Steam SDK 2007 resulted in players having to go to some lengths to launch the game properly. A few months later the game was relieved of this issue and continued development as it had in the past. The game is currently in version 2.51.
So what's the gameplay like? The gameplay revolves around team-based combat utilizing infantry and vehicles in squads. The vehicles and infantry are highly customizable, with different parts being unlocked from technologies. All of the aforementioned units are controlled by players, and can be guided by the commander. The commander is tasked with placement of structures vital to the operation of the team and will decide the technologies to be researched for the use of their team. A vote can be held to remove the commander if that person is deemed unfit for command. Battles can be chaotic or well organized depending on how well your team, squad, and commander work together.
That sounds great, but how much will it cost me?Empires Mod is free on the STEAM store, and the only requirement is that you own a
