Cast my Android screen to computer/monitor without Chromecast?

Is there anyway I can cast/mirror my screen on my Moto G to my monitor/computer without buying a Chromecast or rooting my phone? It needs to be free.

I've done it with my Nexus 7 and it worked, but didn't with my Razr HD. It only works on a few devices though like natively

There are a variety of streaming programs you can use but just like Chromecast they require a constant network connection.

Chromecast doesn't cast your screen, anyway. It casts videos provided by streaming services accessed on your phone. If you want to cast your entire screen, buy an HDMI adapter. You can find one for about $10.
