I don't recognize any of those news websites

The link in the OP doesn't seem trustworthy

Besides, 27% towards science is a pretty large fraction, especially when combined with the other amounts going towards patient care and education

I'm legitimately mad reading that

So much misinformation.

Charities have many more expenses than just paying for research.

And just because every last cent isn't going directly into research, it does not mean the company isn't helping the cause. In 2013, 28% of the money went directly to research, 19% went to patient and community services (working with hospitals and caretakers to aid patients already afflicted in various ways), 32% to public and professional education (raising awareness and understanding of the disease and how to deal with it), 14% to fundraising to help bring in more money, and finally a whopping 7% to administration (running offices and paying employees).

A total of 93% of the money is used to directly help people with ALS in some way. Please stop spreading this sensationalist garbage.
When I just saw the thread title, my thought was "Yeah, this is why I don't donate to anything without first researching the charity"
But then I scrolled down the the pie chart and thought "wtf are you people stupid"

I do think the advertising budget is just a tad bit high, tho, and their executives definitely do get paid a lot

Here's for info for anyone who wants to see:
http://www.charitynavigator.org/index.cfm?bay=search.summary&orgid=3296#.VACYumMXOd4
(assuming this is the right one, there's lots of results for "ALS")

tl;dr:
You've all been duped.
The only people being duped are the people who believe the OP story

Please burry that, you will trigger my wrath :(

I haven't read the ALS foundation even said 100% of the donations would go to research.

why does that article seem to be satire?
