What's wrong with Unity? It's not terrible.

It sure as hell isn't any good.

Good how? Graphically? I've seen a few good games made with it and it's customizable is it not? Of course it's not very good if you just roll with the defaults.

It's good for student projects, but not for actual games. Take some examples like StarForge, Only If, Air Control, the list of god-awful games goes on.

EDIT: There was ONE game that was supposedly really good, and it was made in Unity. I can't remember the name, though. Found it, it was the Forest.

I understand your point, but, especially since it is made to be more easily accessible, there are, of course, stuff games, but you don't really know if they're stuff because of an engine limitation or just a bad developer, know what I'm sayin'?
Also, Kerbal Space Program is pretty good.

Imagine how much better that one would have looked in unreal 4 or cryengine...

-ugh-

I don't like Unity, either. I'm pretty sure he could work with Quake 3D, we would have some editing of the engine to do though, so, yeah.

UPDATE:
I talked with him thru skype, and we're developing the player model. I can't convince him to switch from unity, but I'll keep trying.

I know that he's a great programmer, it may be O.K. to call him a professional.
not really. professionals are people who do something as a profession (i.e, are hired to do it), not a hobby.

stuff games =/= stuff engine

Is this friend's alias "doom mantis"  :cookieMonster:

In all seriousness, can we have a sample of his work?
like a webpage/blog or anything in between.

Pixeldin sounds like a 8-bit game about a Paladin.

Also yeah dont use Unity for this unless its like Unity5
