What causes the "spam" is emitters, relay events, and really annoying FX colors.

Nah, it's the spammy bricks placed randomly around the floor. Ditto
Static shapes are inefficient and were intentionally abandoned for bricks because they will lag horribly at larger numbers. They have no special optimisation or organisation like bricks do, and a large structure made of static shapes will certainly have a decent impact on performance. Obviously, any extra faces you have to render will cause performance problems, but bricks are specifically designed to be rendered and processed efficiently and quickly. Static shapes are not. The game is made to handle at the most 256k bricks (and that's just because of a networking limitation), and static shapes will cause noticeable problems with simple cuboid shapes at hundreds or thousands. You'll probably see more trouble looking at a fantastic explosion up-close than you would if you looked at tens of thousands of bricks at once.

So is this server dead now?

I believe so, but it might not.
