Why can't you build one? I'm actually interested. It doesn't make sense to me why your mom wouldn't let you build one if 1) it's cheaper and 2) it's a fun experience

lol stuff, i meant to put <

I can think of one really good reason: she's not confident that he would actually be able to build it. Assuming that this is a typical mother who doesn't know much about the construction of computers, she probably assumes it requires more technical knowledge of how computers work than she believes OP possesses. Basically, she isn't 100% confident he can do it. So if she bought him $600 worth of computer parts and he was unable to put it together, that'd be a grand waste of $600. Or, she'd have to pay even more money to have a professional assemble it, which is more money she doesn't want to spend.

Obviously this is fallacious thinking due to the fact that computer parts quite literally plug right into each other and require almost zero technical knowledge of electrical engineering to assemble. But I can still see why she'd play the "better safe than sorry" card.

ive already proven before that building a custom pc is the same amount of money as a prebuilt pc
i took a generic prebuilt pc and made a list of generic parts that match those. same price, give or take small amounts that include shipping or taxes

Then you don't know how to shop for pc parts lol

Look at the build I listed previously
$569 for that. And that's the sale price, it's normally $749
Here's a partslist with the same specs for $550 $525 $515, and I could bring it even lower by using lower quality parts like a prebuilt computer would

Reason? Source? Oh i found it

I'd never heard of the subreddit before and literally the only stickied post answers this question.

yeah. /r/softwareswap
That tells me literally nothing
I was looking for something like trinick posted

Yeah I found this right after I asked

That tells me literally nothing
it tells you where I found the information

it tells you where I found the information
Do you enjoy giving someone as little information as you possibly can?
You could have even said "The sticky on the top of /r/softwareswap"
Most people (or at least myself, idk) give as much as they can, such as Trinick, who gave a direct link to the specific thread
But I already found it so whatever

ok your low
Not really. His mom is the one paying for it, if she'll only buy a prebuilt then there's nothing he can do

He should really convince his mom to allow him to order all of the parts and for him to build it himself.

Reasons:
1) cool experience
2) people will think you are tech savvy for looking at google to figure out how to build it
3) costs much less
4) science
