I'm not a professional reviewer, don't treat me as such. I'm only listing what I liked and didn't of the movie, don't treat me like some loving critic.
Me and freek both watched the AVGN movie: heres our review. The beginning loving sucked. It was dreadful story telling. The movie characters that they had as sidekicks was awful. They should have had James and Badluck Bootsy at least. I would've enjoyed the movie a lot more if those where the characters, but the movie left so much out for me. The middle of the movie, probably the best I've seen out of AVGN. There were cameos that were appropriate, the right people and the people me and Freek both noticed. The movie seemed like a glorified ego trip to me too. The 'YouPooed' YouTube knockoff really didn't help either. Since his video in that had well over a million views. We watched the movie in two different parts. The day it came out and today, one week apart. Although I don't mind that he did that for a movie of his fans, this would come off as a glorified ego trip towards new people wanting to watch it. The charicter relationships were weak aswell. My favorite cameo was probably Pat the NES Punk, or Doug Walker. The movies quality (production wise) got lower and lower through the movie, but that made it better and better for me. The acting wasn't bad at all, the special effects are what you should expect from a low budget movie, but you really can't blame James for that. Cooper was probably me and Freek's least favorite character, we both mocked him through the entire movie just because of how unneeded he was.
The acting was decent, but the actors them self didn't fit the roll. I cannot get over this, Mike Matei would have fit a better sidekick, they both have made some of my favorite content and I think having them instead of that trio would have been better in the end, it really angers me that they had to just make him a cameo instead. Watching Jeremy Suarez act in this movie felt like shoving a rusty screw driver up your urethra. It was just painful to watch at some points. I didn't think Mandi (Sarah Glending) was that bad, but she had some cringy parts. Some parts weren't ever explained, they were set up and then died towards the end of the movie, leaving a massive plot hole.
The part that pissed me off the most was they didn't even use E.T. They used some name called EeeTee, I'm pretty sure whoever made that game wouldn't have an issue with them making it in the movie, if he's still alive. I would assume E.T would be public domain, especially that they included the main developer being Howard Scott Warshaw. If Atari owned ET then I would expect so, since they published it, but why would anybody want to hold you accountable for making a movie on a game they made 30 loving years ago.
The ending was just awful. I mean god damn terrible. I've been waiting years for AVGN to review the actual game, and then right when he plays it guess what happens. It goes right to thE loving CREDITS. REALLY. I've sat through this entire movie and wanted to see that happen, right when it did. Nothing happened. OH WAIT NEVER MIND, we just found out that he reviews it in the credits. Wonderful. That's a really cheap way to have people watch the credits. It's just a mix of the new AVGN and the movie. I would enjoy it if it was more authentic, with writing and such. This movie was a let down, but that doesn't mean it was bad. I've been waiting for this movie for years, if you wanted it for years, idk if you'd like it but if you didn't have high expectations then you'd probably enjoy it more then I did. "Special thanks to Atari" why would you thank Atari, you can't use the name E.T?
The best part for me was when Cooper fell off the loving hill, it was worth the $10 to see that happen. I'm not rating this movie, like freek is.
