Author Topic: freek and nal's loving review on the AVGN movie [PARTIAL SPOILERS]  (Read 1948 times)

ok, so i'm obviously the supreme fan of avgn on these forums so once the movie came out I had to see it

OVERVIEW:
first things first, the budget was $325,000+, but the movie overall looks like it has a $10,000 budget. the acting is stale like a loving dirty slim jim, literally the black loving kid in the movie was such a dumbforget i wanted to rip off my richard and give it to him to wear since he obviously didn't have one. the plot was completely awful and scattered. it would go from a giant robot attack to a lesbian researcho fight scene in an instant, and was very hard to completely understand and/or pay attention to. The characters, let me tell you, bland beyond belief. the three main characters are James (AVGN), and he did an okay job he's not the worst actor, some cheeky black kid who believe it or not was actually Jordan from the Bernie Mac Show, but yeah his performance was a loving disgrace, and lastly some bimbo who is the complete definition of a tumblr geek girl.

VISUALS:
The visuals were mostly purposely bad, which would be funny if it weren't so loving overused. Literally every loving explosion was a generic chroma-key or imovie effect. There was an overuse of lens flares, and overuse of cheap costumes. Here's an example:

CAMEOS:
Mike, Justin, and Pat the NES Punk make an appearance, which is cool I guess, but they have to significance to the film, they don't team up with them or anything, they just appear for like one shot and then go away. The movie would have been kick loving ass if they were the sidekicks, but no it had to be generic black teenager and white bitch.

Favorite part:
when the black kid falls off of a mountain and then WALKS AWAY UNINJURED

Least favorite part:
75% of the movie it was really loving boring dialogue. my least favorite part was probably just the entire setup to reviewing ET. it's not the loving worst game ever made, it's just confusing and mediocre. for the past 7 or 8 years he's gone and said, "NO IM NOT REVIEWING ET ITS AN ABOMINATION." when really it's not that bad. honestly I could have thought up some better plots for the movie myself.

Rating: 5.5/10

I'm not a professional reviewer, don't treat me as such. I'm only listing what I liked and didn't of the movie, don't treat me like some loving critic.
Me and freek both watched the AVGN movie: heres our review. The beginning loving sucked. It was dreadful story telling. The movie characters that they had as sidekicks was awful. They should have had James and Badluck Bootsy at least. I would've enjoyed the movie a lot more if those where the characters, but the movie left so much out for me. The middle of the movie, probably the best I've seen out of AVGN. There were cameos that were appropriate, the right people and the people me and Freek both noticed. The movie seemed like a glorified ego trip to me too. The 'YouPooed' YouTube knockoff really didn't help either. Since his video in that had well over a million views. We watched the movie in two different parts. The day it came out and today, one week apart. Although I don't mind that he did that for a movie of his fans, this would come off as a glorified ego trip towards new people wanting to watch it. The charicter relationships were weak aswell. My favorite cameo was probably Pat the NES Punk, or Doug Walker. The movies quality (production wise) got lower and lower through the movie, but that made it better and better for me. The acting wasn't bad at all, the special effects are what you should expect from a low budget movie, but you really can't blame James for that. Cooper was probably me and Freek's least favorite character, we both mocked him through the entire movie just because of how unneeded he was.

The acting was decent, but the actors them self didn't fit the roll. I cannot get over this, Mike Matei would have fit a better sidekick, they both have made some of my favorite content and I think having them instead of that trio would have been better in the end, it really angers me that they had to just make him a cameo instead. Watching Jeremy Suarez act in this movie felt like shoving a rusty screw driver up your urethra. It was just painful to watch at some points. I didn't think Mandi (Sarah Glending) was that bad, but she had some cringy parts. Some parts weren't ever explained, they were set up and then died towards the end of the movie, leaving a massive plot hole.

The part that pissed me off the most was they didn't even use E.T. They used some name called EeeTee, I'm pretty sure whoever made that game wouldn't have an issue with them making it in the movie, if he's still alive. I would assume E.T would be public domain, especially that they included the main developer being Howard Scott Warshaw. If Atari owned ET then I would expect so, since they published it, but why would anybody want to hold you accountable for making a movie on a game they made 30 loving years ago.

The ending was just awful. I mean god damn terrible. I've been waiting years for AVGN to review the actual game, and then right when he plays it guess what happens. It goes right to thE loving CREDITS. REALLY. I've sat through this entire movie and wanted to see that happen, right when it did. Nothing happened. OH WAIT NEVER MIND, we just found out that he reviews it in the credits. Wonderful. That's a really cheap way to have people watch the credits. It's just a mix of the new AVGN and the movie. I would enjoy it if it was more authentic, with writing and such. This movie was a let down, but that doesn't mean it was bad. I've been waiting for this movie for years, if you wanted it for years, idk if you'd like it but if you didn't have high expectations then you'd probably enjoy it more then I did. "Special thanks to Atari" why would you thank Atari, you can't use the name E.T?
The best part for me was when Cooper fell off the loving hill, it was worth the $10 to see that happen. I'm not rating this movie, like freek is.

"Angry Video Game Nerd"

lmfao no thanks

i think doug walkers review was kinda biased/one sided, and his loving facial expression(s)

its like he is being held a loving gun point to say "this movie is good! go buy it!!" or he just got like, 50% of the proceeds from the film

incase anyone wants to watch it

Nostalgia Critic used to be great, but then he started adding loving storylines to the reviews and adding in cameos into every god dam episode, and it went to stuff.

I dunno, I enjoyed it. Mostly because I was paying attention to the references more.

Alien best character.

Similar concept but an overall better movie would be Ashens and the Quest for the Gamechild.

I don't like his cameos but his new videos are loving hilarious at times
disneycember was really good too

I just skip those parts if it's way too hammy, guess some people like it but ehh.

he was probably trying to make a movie that's so bad it's good, but failed to realize it can't be done by someone who knows what's he's doing; the reason why movies like the room were so surprisingly entertaining was because the director was actually DEDICATED and PASSIONATE about it, even though it was a disaster, it was a disaster that had effort put to it, making it all the more funny at the end.

but the movie overall looks like it has a $10,000 budget
what is this based on exactly? sharknado had a budget of 2 million dollars. you can't really expect anything better out of 300,000

soo... no mike matei? no jason vorhees? no bugs bunny? just a black kid?

the budget was probably for advertizing
there are some parts that have worse effects then sharknado
I'm not kidding
soo... no mike matei? no jason vorhees? no bugs bunny? just a black kid?
nop, only cameos

i really enjoy the movie. i don't think the acting was "stale" in anyway and it was worth going to downtown chicago.

i'm planning on BUYING the bluray for the documentary and watching this wonderful movie again.

there were some very cheesy moments of this film but it was good. you can't really rip on a movie just because it's a way of telling a loving story. hell look at inception, that was like a good 80% dialog. was it good? yes.

now keep in mind if you actually watched all of james's nerd logs he mentions that the $325+ mostly went to taxes and permits. la wasn't the best choice of filming since it was absurdly expensive. the low-budget props have a special charm to it and i like how he "overused" them. just kidding he never overused them, unless you're talking about the parts with minatures and stuff which he wanted to do because it added to the charm he was aiming for. the robot suits were just one scene, the rest is pretty decent for a low-budget.

if you seriously were waiting for a 1 hour and 55 minute game review for 7 years, wow. i even knew it was going to be an adventure movie rather than a game review.

tl;dr: AVGN:the movie to me was a fairly decent movie. not the best, but a good movie.

Still have yet to watch it, don't plan to anytime soon. I've only seen three 2014 movies* and I want it to stay that way.
*the Lego movie, Godzilla, Guardians of the Galaxy
