Author Topic: So I bought my first chickens a few days ago  (Read 1808 times)

Decided I would order some chicks by mail, bought 10. Now when they grow up I can steal their eggs, eat them, and sell any extra. They don't ship until Oct. 20th. :3

Breeds I got are;

Rhode Island Red
Buff Orpington
Barred Plymouth Rock
Australorp

What are you gonna name them

Bitch 1, Bitch 2, Bitch 3, etc

Normal egg laying birds don't give much meat. The breasts are usually good but the rest is just a little bit lacking.

I don't plan on eating the chickens, just the eggs.

Oh, I mustve misread the "eat them" part then lol.

I had a few chickens a couple years ago. I started with two new hampshire reds and a bantam breed (name slipped my mind, started with a B I think). They were named Penny, Timia, and Xantia respectively. In October 2011, my dog went and chewed Penny's neck into disrepair (long story, my fault it happened, Timia ran away from home and came back many hours later) and we had to do away with her. We then got two Plymouth Barred Rocks (Penny Jr "PJ" and Lacey). Xantia was killed on Super Bowl Sunday 2012 because we didn't know what was wrong with her. She just suddenly couldn't walk anymore and laid on her side for weeks. PJ survived a dog attack (by SURPRISE!! Our neighbors and their dogs) losing her tail feathers. In the killer summer of 2012, Timia and PJ both succumbed to the heat on the same day. Lacey was eaten by neighbor dogs in September 2012.

We didn't get anymore chickens because of the neighbors. Those stupid idiots let their dogs run all over killing things and we are not going to fund their dog food.
