i see you haven't played a final fantasy game in a decade

i see you haven't played a final fantasy game in a decade
it's not even a final fantasy game
you could literally just replace the title and it'd be something almost entirely different

Ff13 and all those sequels aren't even rpgs by definition

all of the 13's were garbage, but it looks like they're trying to do the same "it's actually stylish action" thing here. hopefully they'll do it better? type-0 was weird because sometimes it was an RPG, sometimes it was stylish action, sometimes it was a strategy game.

Ive been waiting for XV for quite a while. It was originally one of the 3 XIII games, but then they decided to make XIII its own little series and not a set of games.

Heard its having a mix of FFXII and Kingdom Hearts II gameplay, which a few wont like, but those two happen to be my favorite Square Enix games.

Type-0 is a PSP Vita game I think. Things might have changed since both of these games have been in the making for an insane amount of time.

11 and 14 kinda don't count being mmorpg. Games. They shouldn't have been given numbers.

But a ff game hasn't had a world map or world travel since ff9 . That's like a decade ago...
Since then, 10, 12, 13, 13 again, 13 again have all been linear loving zone to zone areas with no turning around. And the game ends.

Hard to believe that old ff. Games were nearly open world and open exploration. People claimed it was a fad that died out. While elder scrolls and gta games were all the rage.

I gave up on the ff series after 9.

is 15 open world again? like that driving around stuff looks like it may be gameplay since the camera seems joystick controlled lol.
i can take some interest if its gone back to those roots again.

wiki:
"True to Final Fantasy fashion, the world map is an open environment that the player is free to explore and roam about via a car, an airship, or a famed Chocobo. Players will also be able to ride Magitek Armor mechas."

ah forget yes! its like a real god damn game again. all those threats of being fired all the square-enix devs received last year for making nothing but spinoffs and b titles must have worked finally.

also magiteck mechas are fun as hell. ff6 and ff14 :D
terra is such a cool chick :D http://cdn.segmentnext.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/Magitek-Armor.jpg

Wait, 10 and 12 were both open world with exploration. 12 had a weird map system, but even if it makes me the odd one out, i liked 12 a lot.

In 12, after a tiny bit, you unlock most of the world, and if you go too far, you have to face off some rather powerful enemies (Necrohol of Nabudis) and the "I need a wiki or a pen and paper" Giant crystal.
Both of which had a Japanese only version which expanded upon the game, and even turned 12s system into more of a class system (I still want the International Zodiac Job System, but never modded my PS2 for it.)

I was disapointed with 13. It kinda hurt having it so damn linear until Chapter 11.

And halfway through this post I realized 10 wasn't all that open, but at least it wasn't just a long hallway.

Type-0 was a PSP game, it came in really late in the PSP lifetime (2011 or so, which is why it already looked really good).

But seeing it on PS4 is just mindblowing to me.

I kind of agree, they should have been officially categorized as subseries like Fabula Nova Crystallis, but they follow the same basic canon as the rest so I presume that's why.

Type-0 has a world map, a world map that is occasionally used to direct troops between areas in addition to your party. :V
Other than Type-0, I know 12 had a weird one too.
I agree that that jank ass linearization sucks though, they've been dumbing down a lot of gameplay aspects way too much.

I just hope they don't handle like garbage, RPGs have tried to integrate cars and the like before with terrible results, and I think this is the first time they'll really be trying anything with actual vehicles, discounting Magitek Armours that basically handled like larger players. My fingers are crossed.
