BluetoothBoy's Single-Sample Challenge!

'Ey! So I thought this would be fun. Basically, make a musical piece using a sound sample. This will also help improve sample-mixing skills.

Rules:

• Only one sample may be used!
• Sample can be from anything: a song, sound effect, movie, etc.
• Original sample must not be more than 5 seconds long!
• No other instruments (software or real), vocals, or SFX may be used.
• HOWEVER, any effect plugin, provided it doesn't generate any (significant; a little, like crackling, is ok) noise of its own, may be used.
• Any form of basic audio editing (pitch shifting, reversal, timestretching, filters, etc.) is allowed as well, provided the only source audio is the original sample.
• Post your sample used along with whatever you make with it.

TIP to help you get started: Timestretching a sample and then chopping it and adding effects to it can lead to many (and often very interesting) results.

Not really gonna be judging anything, this is just for fun, but keep in mind that the shorter the sample, the more impressive it'll be. ;)

If you don't have any good samples, here's some good places to get some:

SampleRadar: http://www.musicradar.com/us/news/tech/free-music-samples-download-loops-hits-and-multis-217833 - Tons and TONS of samples from many genres.

FreeSound.org: http://freesound.org - Just browse around here to find interesting sounds.

ccMixer: http://ccmixter.org/view/media/samples/browse - Similar to (although less extensive than) FreeSound.

Your own music collection: This is a fun way to attempt the challenge, as the sample will often contain several instruments and maybe vocals.

Anyway, go! Make a neat noise-thing!

Where would you suggest looking for interesting samples if we don't have quality recording equipment?

Oh, right, I forgot that everyone might not be a sample hog like me. XD

Here's a great place to start, I'll put it in the OP.

This is not easy
I'm working with a chimes sample

Sounds like a good one to start with though. I'm gonna give this challenge a shot at some point in the near future myself.

I'm probably going to use that Lyn Collin vocal drum sample, gonna be fun

Omg I should use something from Reggie Watts

so the drums have to be from the sample too? I take it pitch shifting's allowed?

Yes (it doesn't have to have drums, of course), and I think that will be the most challenging part for most people, unless the original sample is a drum sample. And yes, pitch-shifting is allowed.

Remember, guys - you have five seconds. There's nothing stopping you from making your own sample and cramming it full of different sounds (I'll put that in the OP); it'll just be a bit less impressive.

Sample used: Banjo instrument from Banjo-Kazooie

What I made: Remix of Lucky Luke (Game Boy) Stagecoach theme

Original .it for proof it's just one sample: https://hostr.co/7iodoQ7K1eUX
this is awesome

So I tried my hand at this. I remixed my own song (damn that's loneliness right there) Tutorial? using this timpani sample. The samples are only pitch-shifted, not edited.

I used Famitracker and Audacity to make it (famitracker to place notes, audacity to mix them all)
I only had A-1 through A-3 in famitracker.
