Author Topic: my dog really isn't doing good  (Read 1616 times)

around a week ago I made a topic about my dog getting way skinnier than he used to be. he dropped from 48 lbs. to around 26 lbs., which is the normal weight for a beagle, but its unhealthy for a dog to lose over 20 pounds in a week.

recently the vet diagnosed him with diabetes and dehydration, because he was fat, and he wasn't drinking any water for some reason. Now we have to give him shots every 12 hours and check his glucose all the time due to the diabetes. the rules for the medication and shots are really specific, he can only take the pills after eating nothing for 2 hours, and he can't take the shots on an empty stomach or he might die. the vet recommended him to eat rice and scrambled eggs, and all he did was throw them up after around an hour. he's been throwing up constantly, around every 2 hours. all he does is sleep, occasionally eat, throw up, and he does run around the yard a little bit, but he usually just lays down on the deck. eughhf

Iktf, my dog is a derp half the time and eats anything he finds so being sick is his thing.

I really hope if it gets serious you just end the dogs misery, but it's your family's decision so just saying.

yeah it's only been around 3 days since he was diagnosed, so we'll have to wait and see how he's doing

can we blame you for letting it get fat?

can we blame you for letting it get fat?
he has a history of eating the other dogs food in the past and hasn't really gotten much exercise in the past year because he has been hit by a car, had moderate limps all year, and isn't as active. so can I blame you for being loving rude?

also forgot to mention, he has lymes disease and he's been really shaky and shivering

Damn, your dog sounds pretty miserable.

I hope he gets well :(

thanks man. he's only like 7 or 8 years old but at this point he looks 12 or 14

He probably got that from ticks. You should have him protected with Frontline or Vectra or something.

aw

so can I blame you for being loving rude?
you could. but i could more easily point the finger at you for your dog suffering than you could at me for calling you on it.

man from the sounds of it that dog sounds absolutely miserable. i hope he gets better

i wish i had some sort of advice to give but we usually just ended up killing our animals if it ever got to be this bad
