Author Topic: Does anyone actually type using the home keys format?  (Read 2641 times)

Nope lol. I'm around 120-150 WPM though.

I don't really rest my hands on my keyboard most of the time so I guess not
if I'm typing something and I need to think about what I'm gonna say next I just hold my hands over the last keys that they were on until I think of something

I use my own "modified" version

I usually just rest my hand on WASD

I use the home row keys by instinct now since I learned it 7 years ago.

I'm still not a very fast typer but I can at least type without looking. I'm generally of the idea that we really just need to stop using the QWERTY keyboard format.

Fun fact: The QWERTY keyboard format was intentionally designed to be slow. This was because the typewriter machine that it was designed for would jam up if you typed just so fast, so they created the QWERTY layout, which was designed to slow down the typer and avoid jams. Somehow the layout has stuck and we're now using one of the slowest typing formats possible for no damn reason.

my fingers just magnetize towards whatever key is the closest/most comfortable.

so, not really.
this
the way they tried to teach us was handicapped

I use like, two fingers at the same time for the most part. Not really an offical method, I'd assume, but I've been typing since I was a little babby so I'm decently quick.

That's crazy. I can't imagine learning a new way of typing.

I find the F and J key with those little stubs so I can figure out how to type properly. If that's called the "home keys format" then yes, I use that. Very useful.

I only use four seven fingers when typing. Five if you count my ring finger pressing backspace.

Whats your other hand doing?

I think I use a slightly altered approach. For one, I always use key shift.

Also typing. I only use my middle and index fingers.

WPM? Also do you shift with pinky or

My default position is on WASD with the pinky on shift and the thumb on spacebar and V (I use V to crouch in a bunch of games because my ctrl key was broken when I started playing 1.6, it sorta stuck with me) and my right hand just goes wherever the hell it wants.

Taking a computer apps class right now. All I can say is, I loving DESPISE the home row method. I always just end up typing gibberish. I use my own method of typing, mostly using only about 2-3 fingers on each hand, and I'm currently the fastest and most accurate typer in the school.
