Welcome to the seventh installment in Sid Jairo's Europa Forumalis! In DEFCON, the two greatest nations of the world go head-to-head in a battle of brute strength, technological advancement, and clandestine fingerpoking! The communist Union of Soviet Socialist Republics and the capitalist United States of America will need to balance their focuses of space, war, and espionage if they want to stay on top. The point of DEFCON is for one of the nations' ideologies to become so influential that it dominates the world. This can be achieved through a variety of ways, including but not limited to: installation of puppet governments, persuasion, intimidation, economic flexing, atomic richard wagging, and good ol' fashioned proxy war.
This isn't to say that the secondary and other nations of the world (specifically Great Britain and the People's Republic of China) aren't important. They play an instrumental role in maintaining the longevity of their big brother and the expansion of their sphere of influence. The more nations that are within a specific ideology's sphere of influence, the closer that side comes to victory.
If the secondary and lesser nations wish to compete in the global conflict of brinksmanship and black ops, they can sure as hell do so. All they require is the proper techs. The great powers of USA and USSR begin with a lot of techs pre-researched. Great Britain and China begin with some techs pre-researched. Other nations begin with none. This will create a very thick atmosphere for nations to either align with one of the major powers and sign research pacts to reduce research time or band together in nonaligned solidarity and form unified research teams. As of the beginning of this RP, however, the nonaligned movement has not been founded yet, despite historical events.
On a final note, the USA and USSR are not allowed to declare war. Not on each other, not on other nations, nobody. They must fight by proxy (by supplying rebels in foreign nations, landing troops as aid in foreign nations, etc) to war with other nations. This is to emulate the exact policies expressed by both nations during this era, so don't get pissy about your lack of combat. You're a goddamn superpower.*
*No warring is allowed in Europe in any circumstance. Any war that does happen, even by proxy, should be handled outside of the hot-zone
HOW IS THIS PLAYED?Simply claim a nation (criteria listed below) and roleplay! It's as simple as one post.
WHAT DOES SPHERE OF INFLUENCE DO?Sphere of influence is the defining feature of DEFCON. It details the spheres of influence of only the United States and Soviet Union. It's the job of the two powers and their allies to help expand that sphere as large as it can go until one of the powers collapses.
The great powers can expand their sphere by occupying nations, giving weapons or aid to allied nations, installing puppet regimes, etc. Stockpiling more and more advanced nuclear weapons will provide international influence as well as probing further and further into space. This means the great powers will have to balance each tech tree if they want to negate a rival's influence, paving the way for a Space Race or arms race.
HOW DOES ESPIONAGE WORK?Espionage is a sub-strategic area of this RP that deals in the unheard, unseen, and unknown. You can utilize espionage by sending me a PM or messaging me on Steam about where you want to locate your spies and what you want to have them do. After that, your spies will attempt to perform their designated task and will keep you updated on a target country's status. Be careful, however. Getting caught spying will hurt your relations with other nations.
WHAT TECHNOLOGIES ARE THERE?I suppose you guys are lucky this time. I went and drafted up the tech trees myself, so now if you have any questions, I can answer them effectively!
