okay so we're rapidly approaching page 100
that means I need to start working on the next rp (my room and I have a ceasefire in place)
current candidates that I was looking forward to doing:
world war 1 (beginning in ~1912)
world war 2 (beginning in 1936)
columbia (beginning in 1444)
while the two world wars are self explanatory, I am going to explain columbia right now:
columbia is focused on expansion. whether it be through conquest or colonization, the goal is to build an empire. the rp will begin ~50 years before the historical discovery of the new world by europeans, allowing time for players to understand the new mechanics I am looking forward to adding
before I move on to the new mechanics, however, you might be asking yourself "why is jairo such a monumental handicap? who would sit through ~50 days just to be able to colonize?" well here's your answer: the time scale actually scales to accommodate what's happening around it. whenever a player nation is engaged in war, the scale will become 1-2 years per irl day and in peace it will run 5-10 years per irl day. this ensures that we're moving from one flashpoint to the next, keeping the rp moving along
(btw here's a map of the world circa 1444 using a different map type than I usually use)one of the new mechanics I'm looking to adding is supply routes and trade nodes. this will be explained after I've developed the idea past infancy and have properly represented it upon the map
another mechanic that I do actually have finished is something called an idea tree (more like a web but whatever).
here's what it looks like. basically, it allows players to customize their nation to fit their play style (and it helps me to calculate npc nation relations and wartime efforts). for example, if you wanted to be a classic russian infantry-intense peasant's cannon, you could invest your military ideas into quantity, infantry, drafted, and defensive. if you wanted to be a maritime venetian trade domineer, you could focus on a merchant-ruling thalassocracy with a heavy emphasis on galleys in your tradefleet.
I think it adds a refreshing flavor of customization to my genre of nation rp
at any rate, things like royal marriages and succession wars and stuff will also be prevalent, so expect those mechanics to be put in as well. it won't be as difficult and confusing as I'm making out to be, I promise
if any of this looks the least bit familiar, it's because I am rebooting the very first sid jairo's europa forumalis
and if you have another era of history you'd like to explore, just tell me and I'll see what I can do
