Author Topic: Duolingo launches new languages (kinda late).  (Read 2533 times)

I use Memrise, and it has a mobile app too. :D
it is better if you have a green bird to teach you languages

Maybe I can finally learn Swedish because this time is TOTALLY different.

yes there is
give me five reason why being a weaboo is wrong.

and none of those reason can be your own personal reaction to weaboo behavior.

i can only give three and it's
1) Hating that you were born in the "wrong" country
2) Eating only japanese food because ^
3) Entwining japanese culture wholly into your life because ^
on side note: do you even know what a weeaboo is or are you just like "it's a person who likes anime"

you technically just stated that the 2nd and 3rd reasons are just sub reasons of the the first.

my definition of a weaboo is somebody who has a strong interest in japan and its culture. And in some cases, to the point where they do wish they were born in japan instead of their own country.

there is nothing wrong with having an interest in another culture. Nor is it wrong to want to become part of that culture.

I also believe that a lot of people become weaboos (or towards a different country) because they feel unsatisfied with their lives and wish they had a different one. Its like the phrase, "the grass is always greener on the other side"
Only most of the time it just appears greener.
this is an example of your first reason. Which most of the time is only experienced in teenagers due to the fact that they are discovering grim realizations such as, their parents dont know as much as you thought they did, the responsibilities of adulthood, financial burdens. But this is normal, its a phase that almost everyone goes through after puberty (not the weaboo part, but the unsatisfying  life part)

this is what an average weeaboo's room will look like

you must have very high standards for weaboos.

at that point, it becomes an obsession. Which is bad no mater what its about.

which means by your definition, a weaboo is somebody who is obsessed about japan to the point where it becomes unhealthy.

There are no set standards to how much interest in japan you must have in order to be clasified as a weaboo. The standards differ from person to person.

my definition of a weaboo is a person who has taken an interest in japan that is above that of the average person.

tbh weeaboo is more abstract of a trait than just "ya a person that x"
well, that's not entirely true, because there is a concrete definition, but the actual connotation of the word is different (as is the case for like every word ever. e.g. what's the difference between a person being described as "silent" and "mute"). weeaboo typically just means someone that's p into stuff like anime and manga and other similar areas of japanese culture

regardless ofc there's no automatic negativity associated with the word or being associated with the word (i refuse to acknowledge these allegations made against me)

BUT THAt's not wat dAa TOPIC IS ABOUT U DINGUSES JEEZz says he after contributing to the discussion
