Author Topic: Just returned to blockland, I would like some answers  (Read 2767 times)

Yes, there is a big update coming, involving hats and hopefully other things.

Who told you that?

Who told you that?
Uh, i have that bookmarked somewhere..
Here it is,
Yes they're still being worked on.

Also this is why we tend to avoid posting about updates unless we have a concrete timeframe for them.
Server compatibility, networking in other words.

As you can imagine these type of updates can cause a variety of issues.

All your add-ons and other content are fine.
Basically you wouldn't be able to join older servers, server that haven't updated to the new version would no longer appear on the server list.

As you can imagine forcing everyone to update can be a problem, so we try to pack in as many network heavy changes into one update.

Who told you that?
If you've seen Wrapperup's bedroom server, thats part of Blockland 2 development.
Blockland 2 is going to have hats, animated faces, etc.
Ask Wrapperup, Rotondo, or Badspot.

This emptied my brain from questions by 90%

Hopefully I've answered some of your questions
Please note that Kalphiter has a bad history within the community and has now decided to (to some extent) dedicate himself to generating propaganda and making sure the game suffers. I try not to get caught up in drama too much or jump on-board with forum-wide hate-wagons, but Kalphiter is literally the embodiment of the lower extreme of outlook on Blockland's current status. I know my own opinion has been stuck into this explanation, but I hope the sentiment I'm trying to delineate has gotten across.

Kalphiter got a lot of crap he didn't deserve while he was here, and I'm not attacking him or his opinions directly here, but there are immediate discredits to anyone with an obvious, clear, and justifiable bias. No matter which end of the spectrum they fall on. Please consider all the variables for yourself and come to an educated conclusion you're comfortable with before assuming a) the world is ending, or b) we're literally in heaven.

It's really easy to point fingers, mope, dwell on the past, ignore the past, deny fact, obfuscate fact, stretch fact, misuse fact, create 'fact', pretend everything is fine, pretend everything is awful, etc. but the fact of the matter is that nothing gets done while you do those things. You learn what you can from what's happened and do your part if you're fit. You don't worry about how much someone else is obligated to do; you don't worry about why you don't think you're fit; you worry about your own part in the matter and how you can best execute it.

I'm just trying to portray that there weren't any big updates, that's all I'm trying to say giving these links out, Although you do have a point.

I think I understand the idea, but 'big update' is pretty vague. If the definition is an update that contains fairly major engine-side changes, I don't really know why those would be expected consistently anyway. It has been awhile since the last update period, though. We can trust that there are things in the works, and the nature of those things kinda justifies this timespan. Say what you want about the actual value of hats, they're still content and they're still updates, and they're not going to be an easy update. Updates don't come out of thin air, and ideas are even rarer. I've stated my opinion on the role of the developers and community to the content flow of this kind of game before, so I won't bother re-stating it. My current experience isn't being actively hindered by the lack of updates. I'd be willing to bet that most people's experiences are actually driven by the community anyway, but that's just my personal hypothesis.

there is no point in content updates to a game unless that update gives a boost in sales.
companies dont do updates because they love to be charitable to your gaming enjoyment.

if blockland sells steady enough to be worth supporting, then badspot will stick around and answer emails. thats fine. and it is.

but if its not getting the kind of hype that an update would generate income. then wtf is the point.

now... a large pay to own expansion on the other hand. that WOULD earn some decent coin. and im all for it :3
