Author Topic: They ARE the virus! (Plot for a story I might write, feedback appreciated)  (Read 1703 times)

arent fungus a separate entity from viruses
Very seperate.
Completely different Kingdom of Life. They're as different from Viruses as we Animals are different to Plants.
And really, Viruses are the most different Kingdom of Life as it is. Animals, Plants, Bacteria and Fungi are all more similar (on the most part) to each other than to Viruses.

viruses aren't even "living" creatures

I know that, but humans aaarrrrreee...

Keep up, please.

Also, this is supposed to be a Sci-Fi thing, with almost a nightmarish sense of dread attached to the story. It's almost like zombies, but a bit more complex and interesting imo. The only way they could live is to take the "cure", which did not really cure them, but allowed their body to adapt to the virus, thus building a dependency.

.... wouldn't one dose be enough, or is this some efficient anti-viral agent they're using.

Well they could not cure it, so they came up with something that they thought was close enough, if that's what you're talking about.

there is going to be a band of survivors where some dorky nerd resembling yourself (who has cool karate skills and great weapon handling because xxcodsn1perxxx) will hook up with some hot chick whose whole family died and you will comfort her in the darkness.

pulitzer prize stuff here folks

Yeah actually haven't thought about all that yet, I want the survivors to be as realistic and as traumatized as possible, but still differ from typical zombie story lines. I just came up with the main conflict. Maybe it won't even be an apocalypse. It could just be a chaotic, near-lawless state of society similar to the one in Looper (the movie with Bruce Willis from a couple years ago), because you can hardly tell the "cured" from normal people. I don't know, and that's partly why I started this thread.

Isn't that exactly (okay not exactly) what happened in Walking Dead, season 2?

Keep any tacticool stuff out of the story and add an interesting antagonist (like somebody in a gang/militia)

Yeah, that's what I was planning. But I haven't quite figured out why the infected are dangerous to the survivors and how they fight or whatever, at least completely. Suggestions, anyone?

i think you should lay off that typical cliche where any virus would turn you into an overly aggressive creature that could infect other people by simply biting them. (not saying that's your case, but that's so you know)

i'd like to see more, what you've got now is like the brief introduction of a movie, or a book, in this case.

also, your possible antagonists should be portrayed as normal people. take the last of us as an example, there's no real evil people, it's just a bunch of guys trying to survive in such a cruel world.

i think you should scrap that idea where you "become the virus" or something. what i think would be cool was if there was some sort of disease that would kill you if you didn't take special medication, like zombrex in dead rising.
but the problem is that the virus/bacteria/fungus is extremely contagious, such as a flu, and the disease spread so quickly that farmaceutical industries couldn't keep up.

in all that mess, there were people who were immune to that disease, but their blood could be used to produce that same medication that keeps everyone else alive, which results in these people being constantly hunted by the rest of the world.

idk just som ideas

I meant "they had become the virus" as figurative, in a sense. The virus affects their emotions and thoughts, indirectly. What if the infected were a cult that were addicted to the vaccine, and, like you said, their blood was needed for it. Maybe this could be 2-5 decades in the future, when their condition has been passed on to the next generation, and only a few were without the virus.

What do you guys think of these ideas? Lemme know. :)

I might start adding different ideas and suggestions to OP to easily organize them
