Author Topic: Robocraft Thread- v2.0- TANK TREADS AND MELEE WEAPONS AND stuff  (Read 9170 times)

New melee weapon and tank treads added!

What is Robocraft?

Robocraft is a free online game where you can build awesome robots from cubes, jump in and drive them, and then take them into epic battles online. It is similar to World of Tanks, with the mechanics and customization abilities similar to those of Minecraft. You can take your mighty war machine in to battle on one of the many science fiction-themed maps in order to win Robopoints (RP) and Tech Tokens, and in turn use those to customize and better your robot!

How do I make my tank better?

Once you begin the game, you are provided with basic materials to build a robot, as well as a pre-built robot. Some choose to keep this basic design, others do not, but the one thing everyone must do in order to be successful is to research new parts for their tank through the Tech Tree.

Use the Tech Tokens you use in battle to research new parts in the Tech Tree, and use RP to purchase those parts. The amount of higher-level parts on your machine determines your Tier. The higher your Tier, the wider variety of parts you'll have at your disposal.

Types of Cubes:
  • Chassis: This is the shell of your creation. It is what gives your robot its shape and protection from other robots. The higher the tier of armor, the greater mass and armor rating. Be sure that your armor is good enough for your tier!
  • Movement: How your machine gets around. The higher you go on the tech tree, the more transportation options will be available to you. You start out with a basic set of wheels, but you can later acquire many different things such as hoverblades, tank treads, thrusters, plane wings and rudders, and as part of a recent update, walker legs! Be sure that you have enough transportation to carry the mass of your robot.
  • Hardware: How your machine kills other machines. There are 4 main types of hardware: SMGs, Plasma Launchers, Railguns, and Nano Disruptors. Each weapon type can have its own unique set of purposes and strengths over another type, as well as weaknesses in some areas. SMGs hit the target immediately and have a great rate of fire, firing very rapidly, but lack accuracy at range unless fired slowly. Plasma Launchers deal direct damage and splash damage and are very effective at dealing with single targets, but have a reloading time and do not shoot far unless you compensate for distance. Railguns are single-shot weapons that have the best range and best damage rating, useful for picking off tanks at long ranges, but have an extremely slow reloading time and must take time to focus on the target for an accurate shot. Lastly, the Nano Disruptors can be used to heal your allies and track fast-moving robots, but have the shortest range out of all armaments and allow only a maximum of 6 per robot. They heal at 1/3 the rate an SMG does damage. A new type of weapon has been recently added, the Tesla Blade, which has the highest damage in the game. You ram into other tanks to destroy them.
  • Special: Includes the odds and ends of the bunch. The Special cubes are things such as headlights, the required Pilot Seat, Radars, Radar Jammers, and Alignment Correctors.

Note: Each piece that you put on your robot takes up a certain amount of CPU. You have a CPU limit based on your experience level, and it makes sure that tanks do not become too overpowered or too large. Make sure to use your space wisely!

How should I design my robot?

How you design your robot is completely up to you. You should experiment with different layout types and find out which ones best suit your playstyle, and try to make it unique. Be sure that it is efficient in battle and lasts long enough to get you some points! If you look at the end of the thread, there is a gallery of user-made tanks for inspiration and ideas.

Sounds great! Where do I sign up?

As cool as this thread is, I need additional help, what do I do?

There is an official wiki for the game. The link is in the picture below:

Yeah but as you go higher up in Tiers you see a lot less of that

NEW HALLOWEEN UPDATE GOGOGOGO

Is this game still pay-to-win as I've heard, or his it fun for those of you that play it?

It's not pay-to-win at all! I mean, you can buy pre-built machines, but they can be beat just as easily. There is really no advantage in having one over not having one. If you really want one, just copy it. Then there's Premium, but you can get it for free sometimes via promo codes.

Just downloaded robocraft from official website
Hype is growing
Hype is real

I mean, what are the benefits of Premium? I know you can get it free temporarily, but if someones dropping cash to get some piece of loot that kicks ass, I want to know before I start getting in there.

Either way, I'm going to download this later. Sorry if I'm sounding snippy, I'm not trying to be.

Well, it doesn't give you exclusive parts or anything like WoT, it just doubles RP and Tech Tokens earned. There's a promo code in the OP that you can use.

Came back just in time to say

Holy stuff, this reminds me of Banjo Kazooie, Nuts and Bolts.

Except with robots.

Let me know how it goes :)

I'm actually having a lot of fun so far. Glad this got on to steam, parents wouldn't let me download it otherwise.

UPDATE - Starting is a bit um... boring but the farther you go the more fun it gets
TIP - Use wheel gaurds to ensure wheels don't get blasted off
TIP2 - Use front bumpers as rams so you can bash into enemies and have then go right over you (recommended are heavy armor blocks)
