My skeptical side says he's either misinformed or joking; my wishful side thinks it would be cool if his claims are true.

Also, I'd like to add that even though potential extraterrestrial visitors (presumably) have FTL/Warp/Wormhole travel, it doesn't mean they hail from a race of superior intellects. It wasn't the entirety of Humanity that made scientific accomplishments, but mere individuals. Not saying they couldn't come from a race of superior intellects, just saying that Technological Superiority != Intellectual Superiority.

Yes well these hypothetical civilizations could also be even MORE flawed than ours. I mean, you can't prove it because it's all hypothetical! See the problem? My intent is not to argue whether or not alien civilizations would be more advanced then ours, but merely to address your position that we're a "glorified ant colony", going on to say "An intelligent species would have solved simple problems that our society has had for decades by now".

Failing to solve simple problems on a societal level does not illustrate low or inadequate intellect on a species wide scale. I actually haven't heard any examples from you yet: would you mind detailing a few of these simple problems?
