Author Topic: my friend got some annoying ass adware [fixed]  (Read 703 times)

my friend somehow managed to get a bunch of malware on his computer with "FREE ANTIVIRUSES GET NOW" and "100TH IPAD WINNER YAY CLICK HERE" type of popups. its been like 45 minutes i've had to walk him through how to remove malware with avast over facetime. it's especially not fun when they dont know the least bit about computers.
any advice? (he just got avast)

malwarebytes or orbitally nuke the computer.

I'd recommend downloading Spybot S&D and then nuking everything affected by the adware. Clean up with Malwarebytes afterward.

install bonzi buddy
Bonzi buddy will solve all your problems

update: woah there this guy is fiesty, it wont let malwarebytes, avg, or avast, not even in safemode

Back up any irreplaceable files and format the hard drive. A bit on the overkill side, but you can't deny its effectiveness.

Get RogueKiller, run in safe mode and done.
Quote from: Roguekiller Website
RogueKiller is an anti-malware program written in C++ and able to detect and remove generic malwares and some advanced threats such as rootkits, rogues, worms, …

Based on generic ways to find malwares by their behaviour (heuristics), on classic anti-malware brown townysis (signature finding) and on undocumented hacks, RogueKiller can find/remove most of the basic malwares (rogues, trojans, …) and some advanced threats like ZeroAccess or TDSS that behave more like rootkits.

RogueKiller is a tiny anti-malware maintained by a small team, and thus new detections are based on “most spread threats“. We react quickly to integrate detection and removal of what we think can be a global threat and affect a big amount of users across the world.

Don't know if I'm allowed to post a link as it may lead to an exe...so you may have to look it up yourself.

Also to enter safe mode without being in windows, just reset while windows is booting.

launch a nuclear missle
