Author Topic: Oculus rift support.  (Read 2104 times)

Now, yes I did read this topic: http://forum.blockland.us/index.php?topic=226758.15, but you all are being bozos (norly)

Badspot himself doesn't need to make it YOU ALL can yes the modding community, yes you.
If none of you have an oculus, (highly unlikley) than thats fine I don't really mind if its never created :P
But I'm thinking about buying a DK2 or DK3 whenever that comes out, and if one of you could figure out how it could work with it, you could send me the files, I could test it, feedback and so on.

Soooo, can we not get mad at each other this time?

/support

It would make blockland better in so many ways

it depends on what exactly the modders can do with what they're given. not everything is possible in 1990s-era torquescript yknow

to be fair i see two major problems with making oculus rift support for bl

stereoscopic 3d is probably possible if we can find a way to displace the proportions of the screen. i know of at least one addon (rear-view mirror comes to mind) that is capable of placing a second screen overtop of the regular one. this could be used, but the only problem is that we'll have to either a) put two screens completely overtop of the first in order to have two visible, which will severely reduce framerate with any form of shaders, or b) find a way to change the dimensions of the main screen in order to match that of the second one. i'd say that isn't really possible.

the other problem is motion tracking. while the tracking part itself is probably fairly easy to hook up, you have to take into account that the player's camera doesn't handle roll (tilt to the sides), only yaw (horizontal rotation) and pitch (vertical rotation). not to mention the extra animations, coding, and other things that would have to go into making the player's camera roll is just not worth it. in short, i don't think rift support is going to be a thing until we're graced with an engine update, which we also don't need now would be worth it.

when do you think and engine update is EVER going to happen?

when do you think and engine update is EVER going to happen?
It's not because our engine works, and nobody has to blow money/time to update it.

unfortunalety half of the topic was titanium man and teneksi yelling at each other.

when do you think and engine update is EVER going to happen?
Never.  Updating an engine isn't exactly a small task.

how would this work with third person and not make people vomit their brains out

by not going in third person

That's not Blockland.
the only practical use of third person is building or wandering around
who is going to build with the oculus rift, users are probably just going to DM with it or something

Your saying that the point of Blockland is to not build?
Come on.
