Sorry to burst your bubble, but typical "major production movies" take about 6-8 weeks to film (less if it can all be shot in locations nearby) and are completely cut and edited in about 3-4 months. The few movies that do take longer than a year to make are usually the victim of problematic funding/studio support, changing directors or other production related problems.
A piece of machinma should only take a week or 2 to make if your dedicated to it. My "Pirates of the RTB" movie, although admittedly low quality, was filmed and edited and released in the space of about 6 hours and that was with morons for actors and only myself for set building and editing.
Are you loving kidding me? 6-8 weeks! Not mentioning the preparation by actors, the construction of props and sets, possible delays, production team's lack of money, ect ect, the list goes on.
Sure, the filming itself is the shortest part, but that is not at all what I was hinting to. I meant the countless things that need to be done, not to mention that I also have an educational life as well as a social one. So you're comparing this little stuffcan project to a full fledged movie who have people that actually get paid to do that so they're always on schedule.
I'm sorry to anyone who's been anticipating this, but to be honest with events they way they are in my own life, as well as WRB852's we usually don't have the time nor will power. Now admittadly, I want to get it done myself, but unlike a major production we're not being paid. So when it comes to the actual motivation to get done, there's a lack of.
And obviously, we could devote a whole 2 weeks to the project and most likely finish it, but thats not taking into account that A) every Friday WRB852 and I are at football games, B) I never complete my homework, instead I'm upstarirs playing Blockland, and C) We don't put any effort into the filming nor set building saying: "ah it looks good enough" Plus you also failed to mention we are actually shooting the entire film. That means an entire movie of 99 + minutes made to be "spectacular" in its effects, acting, shooting, writing, ect ect.
We're trying to top everything eles :D The sad thing is, once finished, we'll never get to distribute it in any form thanks to copy rights on both Star Wars and Blockland. I mean sure, we could shell out the money to have it made into DVDs and give them away for free, but then we're in the hole. Though, the only time I'd ever charge is the actual costs of making the DVD, we're not a profit type of movie. Too bad theres not like a cafe press for DVD distribution.
So I'm sorry to get snappy, just everyone's expecting this movie to be out like all the other movies that take no time to make, when they don't get that we're trying to do something interesting. Again, it's probably over the top, but I've always been fascinated with movies, and I'd really like it if when I finally made one, even in Blockland, it looked somewhat like the real thing.
