Author Topic: BlockNet Dedicated Hosting  (Read 8331 times)

BlockNet is the next generation managed hosting service that many people have been waiting for. Do you need a reliable server without going through the trouble of managing your own VPS, not to mention paying the higher cost of a VPS? Then BlockNet hosting may be for you.

In the wake of recent events, it was made clear that security had to be of the highest priority from now on. BlockNet hosting strives to have the highest standard of security ever seen in a managed Blockland hosting solution.

The three major aspects of BlockNet are: Security, Flexibility, and unparalleled Performance.

  • Security - BlockNet hosting utilizes time-tested open-source software to ensure maximum security for it's clients. Debian is well known for it's security measures and is among the most reasonably secure operating systems available. Copious amounts of time have been spent utilizing the powerful permission system Debian offers to ensure that client files are secure from unauthorized access and modification. BlockNet hosting also allows you to use authentication keys which are owned by BlockNet, rather than your own.
  • Flexibility - Unlike previous hosting services, BlockNet will be offering multiple levels of hosting so that clients only need to pay for what they need. Packages range from servers on shared hosting nodes (cheaper, yet still very reliable) and even being able to use our managed hosting service on a dedicated node specifically for your server (extremely high performance and reliability). Additionally, the distribution of nodes will allow clients more options in choosing the location of their server geographically. Once a reasonable client-base has been established, slots on nodes in other locations of the world such as Europe and Asia will become available for purchase. It is also possible that some extreme budget nodes may become available for clients who need only the simplest of hosting.
  • Performance - BlockNet hosts from high-end VPS nodes, with shared nodes being deployed in a distributed manner. This distribution ensures that extremely large DDoS attacks on servers has minimal impact on the client-base as a whole. Additionally, tests have proven that Blockland servers execute code faster on Debian-based systems than on Windows-based systems.

The open beta for BlockNet hosting will begin soon. The beta will span over a 1-month timeframe and will then end. The official service launch is projected to occur immediately afterwards, but I'm not ready to promise that.

Beta applications have ended.

If you wish to purchase a beta hosting slot ($10), please send me a private message and we'll work that out.
(If you cannot use the forums PM system, you can also contact me on steam)

Would you be interested in purchasing managed service after the beta?: No
Would you want to use a BlockNet authentication key? ($1): No
Please explain what experience you have that would make you a good candidate for testing BlockNet: Running several high-load dedicated servers myself quite a few times and helping you with setting this up myself.

A good stress test? What if I ask Furdle to bring up the GTA server on it?

Would you be interested in purchasing managed service after the beta?: Yes, probably

Would you want to use a BlockNet authentication key? ($1): If possible

Please explain what experience you have that would make you a good candidate for testing BlockNet:
When RTB Hosting was new, Spade's arcade, of which I was a main administrator, was one of the first users of the system. The nature of Spade's Arcade combined with the newness of the RTB hosting service at the time meant the majority of feature requests and bug reports came from us.

What I'm saying Is I can write a bug report.

Another reason, if needed, would probably be that my servers have been getting very high player counts recently. My record is 50 with the old Super Creeper server that I had RTB Hosted. I'd like to be able to go that high again.

My final reason would probably go hand in hand with what you're trying to do here; most of the mods I create, work with and run (I.E. Super Creeper, King Of Ghosts) put a big load on the server, which, from what you've said about stress testing, may be desirable.

omg yes
my life is now complete

Would you be interested in purchasing managed service after the beta?: If entry and stress testing goes well, I would be more than happy to support your cause.
Would you want to use a BlockNet authentication key? ($1): Maybe, I would like to see a good amount of progress before I start spending money.
Please explain what experience you have that would make you a good candidate for testing BlockNet: At the moment I'm going for my networking certifications and my advision may prove useful. I've hosted game servers before (including blockland, but that was a while ago) and for a long time. They may not have popularity, but my experience in hosting kept them efficient and online. So if you ever need a specimen to do testing or just some advice, you can always count on me.

Would you be interested in purchasing managed service after the beta?: Possibly (More yes than no)
Would you want to use a BlockNet authentication key? ($1): See above
Please explain what experience you have that would make you a good candidate for testing BlockNet: Before RTB shut down, some people considered my server to be amazing (and sometimes saying better than others). So with a new hosting service, I can continue to entertain the people of Blockland.

This sounds interesting, Is this security idea from Bisjac? I really like that idea.

Why would it be from Bisjac?

Why would it be from Bisjac?
Because he mentioned it in the cbmhost drama.

I can confidently say that Pecon is the only interested party who I would trust to do a good job with dedicated hosting.
You're also a developer, which is your strongest point. You know which information someone needs in a bug report because you know what it means to squash bugs.

It definitely isn't.

Wow, very nice. Can't wait for it to be ready; you got my order.

Pretty sure he's looking for well known hosts who can put together a popular server.
