Author Topic: Supposedly, Windows 7 will not support DirectX 12.  (Read 2092 times)

I dont want to waste a hundred or more bucks to upgrade an operating system when currently my windows 7 rig is functioning perfectly.

maybe when i get a new computer i can upgrade, but for now, upgrading to 8.1 is pointless.

This. I'm waiting for windows 10 to be released as well...

i'm not saying upgrade now--wait for windows 10 unless you want 8 so you can get 10 for free

plus you all will be safe on windows 7 well after directx 12 releases because not many games will come out requiring 12 any time soon after it's release. just saying, it's starting to get a little dated. i'm not even a huge windows advocate i honestly prefer linux

windows 10 is free to 8 users, and unless i'm mistaken, will cost more than windows 8 to people on windows 7 and earlier.

lmao have you even used windows 8?

My lady had it on her laptop when she bought it new this year. She hated it too so I reverted it back to 7. Windows 7 runs much better on it. I had to go into the bios and enable legacy support, however.

It just seems like the hardware runs better with windows 7. Its more responsive and runs quieter than before. The only part of this process that I found somewhat troubling was finding all the drivers since it was originally a windows 8 OS. After a bit of searching I found all the drivers I needed though

when i get i laptop next year i hope to get it with windows 10, but if i have to live with 8.1 for a while until then then i'll deal with it

and i have a customized start menu. it's literally windows 7 but more polished, i don't know how you can even claim it's a pain in the ass

same.

i bought win 8 with my student discount when i heard we get the free upgrade to windows 10.

Wait what, 8 users get free 10?

Wait what, 8 users get free 10?
Dude, this information has been out for a while now lol

Wait what, 8 users get free 10?

yes.

it's not 100% true but knowing that we have some source about it from microsoft it's bound to happen now.

I bought 8.1 for my new PC and I will be upgrading to Windows 10 stat. Frankly, I'm not as annoyed at 8.1 as I original was at 8, and I think with a few of those hacks I'll slip into the environment just fine.

then developers will have to deal with the fact that if for some reason they make their products DX12 only, they'll exclude windows 7 users. they'll either hold off on DX12 entirely, or just make it also use DX11/10/whatever other versions they feel like as they always have. it's not really too much of an issue because this is what devs do already anyway.

if for some reason they make their products DX12 only, they'll exclude windows 7 users.
good
people need to get used to not using outdated software

I feel as though a lot of devs will do exactly what they're doing with DirectX 11 now; not use most of the features available in the library which can improve various aspects of the game, so that the only reason DirectX 11 exists in their games is for the speed increase.

They need to not alienate 50% of their userbase. Windows 7 is far from outdated in the ways that matter, and won't be until at least 2020.

I'm not surprised at all. Not in a negative way, I just figured. That's how it always goes.
Windows 8 isn't horrible at all, I just don't want to give up my baby Windows 7. ;-;
