Hello friends! Who is eye? I am that one guy who use to be in that one space clan for nerds (ares) and had an obsession with roof lighting and still does! Why am i here today? for the following reasons:
1. sylvs lights lack detail
2. he is being a huge fricken nerd
3. dear lord my ocd over roof lighting is really bad!
So with that said i present the following images to why
Subpoint A.
See this? this is your light, its bland and lacks detail. if you are going to make it take up space you should never do this. Back when i actually built i would always have to tell people it was the worse option, and it kinda is.
Subpoint B.
Look at that! Wow! it looks slightly better? When you are doing lighting you have to make the thing in three layers 1. what the light is attached to, 2. where the light is coming from, and 3. the light itself. In this case the area it is coming from is the border, you need that contrast to make the light appear brighter than its surroundings and actually light up! If you do not do this than it is just a glowing background object and losses its function as a light source. This is in truth all you have to do to improve their looks but i am not stopping there.
Subpoint C.
What did we do here? We tried to give it some texture! If you look at an office type of lighting in real life you will notice the texture of the glass and the florescent tubes behind it. But what do they also have in common? The path that they follow. Doing this sort of grill style is neat because it helps lay out a general direction and gives depth to the lighting source. This is actually what is done for lighting in the death star if you pay attention while watching the movies.

As stated before you will notice the glass in an office type of setting. Doing so here makes the lighting look slightly more realistic. I for one always put FX pearl on it so i can make lightswitches where when it changes it does not go invisible for that split second.
Subpoint D.
Here is what a large/detailed light will look like. If you want you can make it come down so the roof has more depth, but with that said you have to add detail to the outside now as well. Things like this should be left for more frequented areas in your build such as a passage that is used alot.
FAQQ. Who are you?
The proud lord said, that i must bow so low? only a cat of a different coat, that's all the truth i know. A coat of gold, a coat of red. A lion still has claws. But mine are long and sharp my lord, as long and sharp as yours. And so they spoke, and so they spoke, the lords of castamere... (you know the rest)A. I use to build spaceships, you might remember me.
Q. I remember you (but) where did you go?
A. I stopped playing and decided to watch 50 diffrent tv series.
Q. Why the hecka did you stop building?
A. i lost interest, like an artist unwilling to draw.
Q. How large is your ego? since the past few questions have been about yourself
A. Not large enough yet
Q. tbh the last light is really stuffty...
A. I only turned on print plates to match the roof style of the ship, everything else is default bricks since i only use default bricks.
Q. I have over viewed your images with some scrutiny and concluded: you suck at everything but lights
A. The focus is lights, i could insult other aspects of the spaceship but that is for another time, perhaps when i can afford a trip to the server?
Q. What you are doing here is kind of a richard move, busting into this topic only to insult this amazing build and give this really stupid guide to a pointless detail.
A. Yeah i know, also the detail is not pointless. Because of how blockland works with the character size roofs are normally lower and more in view of the player instead of the floor. Proper interior roof detail is sometimes more important than floor detail.
Q. I hate this FAQ almost as much as i hate the person who made this.
A. Same, but since the last time i visited the forums i still believe that most responses to a subject are 85% pure bullstuff. With that said all of your responses are practically here already!
