Author Topic: Robot Roller-Derby Disco Dodgeball (woah it's now 2.0)  (Read 3251 times)

thanks to boink! for inspiring me to make this topic

SO WHAT IS THIS?
It's first person dodgeball inside a disco thing while you play as a robot thing that has a wheel
It's insanely fun

DODGEBALL?
Yep, but will lots of twists

WELL DOGGONIT TELL ME MORE ABOUT IT!
First of all, to get this out of the way, there's none of that "you can't cross the middle line" stuff. You can go anywhere around the arena. (Except inside the enemy's spawn obvs)
There's respawning, except in the elimination mode.
There's some fun modes like Capture the Cube, Hoops, Elimination, etc.
Instead of a flat area, it's an arena. Quite a few so far already.
Power-ups.

GOSH-GOLLY, THAT DOES SOUND FUN!
It is, very much so. Here's some other neat features that don't have a place:
Amazing soundtrack with things from Adhesive Wombat, Anoctave, and Kraedt
Pretty lights
Pick a mustache and shades for your robot
Pick a color for your robot to use in FFA modes
Power-ups such as jetpacks, homing, and big-ball

SO HOW DOES THE BALL STUFF WORK?
When you spawn, you don't start out with a ball. You're defenseless without one. You have to pick up one of the many that will be scattered around in the arena. When you pick up one, you can charge up a shot to pass it to a team-mate, or what you'll want to do more, destroy an enemy. Insta-kills. Careful, they can catch it and you'll die, but it's difficult to do so. Your ball becomes safe after 2 bounces.

Here's the official description, he might tell things better.

Welcome to the best dodgeball FPS ever made! Disco Dodgeball is a physics-based sports arena shooter that is basically gym class at a rave.

It's pure, simple, ridiculous fun. Includes singleplayer & multiplayer content (including free server hosting), stats, upgrades, powerups, and a wide array of unique game modes that require tactics and teamwork to succeed.

Current Features
Free Online Multiplayer with one-click server setup and LAN support
Singleplayer Modes like challenge scenarios with unlockable upgrades, or play bot matches against devious AI
Ten different dance club combat arenas that pulse to the beat of an amazing electronic music soundtrack
Seven multiplayer game modes with a wide range of challenges and objectives that will test your skills and teamwork (see below)
Skill shots including 360 helicopters, alley-oops, dunks, ricochets, and mid-air catches

It's still in early access so while there's already a bunch of stuff in the game, there could be more later.
Anyways, here's the steam page:
http://store.steampowered.com/app/270450/
It's $10.
Even if it won't be on sale for the fall sale thing it's still worth a try if you're even slightly interested.

Bump, it now has a demo, try that out first!

Decided to bump this massively because I forgot I made this and I want more people to play it.

It's now the #1 best rated multiplayer game on steam!
It has been for a while now but I just got back to this so

this looks really cool

bumpin again, seriously if you're even slightly interested in this game try out the demo and you might just like it.

An update recently features a new in-game guide and better power-up icons!

All i did was have to read the name and i bought it.

On February 19th, Disco Dodgeball will be graduating from Early Access and officially released as version 1.0. The project started in July 2013 and went from being a web prototype, to a Humble widget, to a Greenlight title, to Early Access, and now soon will be my first released game on Steam.

It's been a blast working on it and couldn't have done it without all of your feedback and support. Being a solo developer has some unique challenges, one of which is trying to be creative in an isolated environment. But having a community of excellent people like you to help brainstorm with has made a tremendous difference in this regard and I think the game and my own mental health are in a much better state because of your participation.

The sometimes stressful and frustrating parts of building a game are made much easier knowing that there are people out there who care about the work you're doing - it provides meaning and purpose that help me get through the difficult parts.

I know it's hard these days to take the leap on an Early Access title so I really appreciate your trust and hope you find it's been an enjoyable process to see it improve over the past several months. I'm very happy with how the game has turned out and can't wait to get it into more people's hands.

That said, I don't view the game as 'done'. This in the same sense that I don't think a game like TF2 will ever be 'done'. There are major features to build that I didn't feel were necessary for official launch, but could dramatically extend its gameplay lifetime and open up huge new areas of content expansion.

I was very careful not to overpromise during the game's development and I won't change that going forward. But depending on how launch goes, some of those specific things I will try my best to add are things like:

Steam Workshop support for sharing/trading/selling custom cosmetic items that players create
Level editor
Local multiplayer
Clan support
New game modes
Co-op challenges
More Arcade powerups
VR support

Again, I can't promise any of this because a lot depends on launch. But I felt it would be nice for you all to know that my intention is to keep adding onto the foundation of 1.0 and keep making this game even better.

I'll make another post right after launch that goes into a bit more detail about the order and timing of these additional features. I'll also try and make a publicly available to-do list to you all can vote on the major and minor features you'd like me to prioritize.

Again thanks for everything, and happy dodgeballing!

c'mon guys, I don't wanna pattern of me posting 1-3 things and one guy posting and that looping
help keep this alive you fools, everyone needs to know about this game

Ok it's now officially out of early access
It's on sale for $12
go
also new launch trailer

GUESS WHAT YOU forgetS NICE PEOPLE WHO NEVER REPLY, THIS IS BACK WITH AN ALL-NEW UPDATE!
Main feature is that all the levels got re-textured! They look really cool.

There's also a clan feature thing now, so now you can represent your love for the autism blockland community!

accidentally shown in the one map that looks like it barely got any updated textures, whoops.
To make up for that, here's one the creator provided.
