you can stream any game as long as you link it to steam I think

This is what shows up when someone is banned from broadcasting.
For anyone wondering this guy has been banned from broadcasting for streaming hentai.
Which is not something I was directly minding of, but still.

People who livestreamed research and hentai got banned from Steam Community. Probably a permanent ban. There are other people who streamed copyrighted content, and might have also gotten a permanent ban.

If you stream a game that's a non-steam game, then it's unlisted on the broadcasts page on the Steam Community. This is how Valve is getting past these issues.
